2 or 3 nights at VB, what would you do?

We are planning an 8 night trip for the end of June 2007. My DH will be returning from a 6 month deployment and he has expressed an interest in trying VB. So here is the question, 6 nights in a 2 bdrm at SSR followed by 2 nights at VB (probably in a 1 bdrm) or 5 nights at SSR then 3 nights at VB?

Will we find enough to do at VB for 3 nights or is 2 nights plenty of time?

My boys will be 9, 7 and 4 at the time of the trip.

So, either have drive to VB on a Thursday and drive back to MCO on Sunday, giving us 2 full days at VB. Or, drive to VB on Friday and have 1 full day at VB.

What to do? Thanks in advance for all the help.

What a coincidence! We also have the same dilemma. We are thinking of staying for 2 nights in a deluxe inn room w/ ocean view (probably June 10 and 11, 2007). We are first staying at SSR for 7 nights and then driving to VBR. If we check out of SSR by 11 am on June 10, and drive to VBR, we have at least one half day there; and then a full day the next day on June 11; and then we have a few hours before we check out on June 12. Then we are going to BWV for a few more nights.

So, does our current itinerary seem to allow enough time for swimming, shopping, sightseeing - everything VBR has to offer?

Also......what are our chances of getting the room we want on the dates we want - if we book at the VERY BEGINNING of the 7 month window?

Personally I think you will leave feeling cheated if you do the 2 nights 1 Day itinerary.

With that being said "if you want a change of pace" and relaxing poolside or beachside go with the 3 nights 2 days; if that isn't your thing (after 1 stay it will be your thing trust me) then 1 day to try it and plan a future visit would be nice too.

It is really up to you but go for the 3 nights!!!! :cool1:

My sister and I and our four girls just did this in May. We did 5 nights at BCV then 3 at VB. We did not want to leave VB!! I would definately do 3 nights. In fact, I added 3 nights at VB to my upcoming October trip. I am hoping to get my DH hooked on VB too so maybe I can add some points there!!

Due the 3 days here will need the relaxing part of VB.

I went for 2 days and it was over before we could really do much. This year we will be there for 3 days. I find VB very relaxing after being at the parks.

I just changed my vacation plans so we can stay 3 nights at VBR, rather than 2. Now if only I didn't have to wait until November to book...... :rotfl:

After a stay at WDW, I think 3 nights at VB would be great. We went over spring break for 4 nights and loved it. We just vegged at the pool and beach all day. It was so relaxing. It would be great for the end of a WDW vacation. There are lots of activities for kids too. Have a great Trip!!!!!

3 days at VB-definitely!

In June you have all the 'turtle' options as well...you'll be so glad you have the extra time to just relax and ENJOY!

Hope it's a magical trip!

How hard is it to book VB at 7 months, for a summer stay (late June, early July)? We would need a 1 BD or 2BD. Is there any hope?

Okay, you all have convinced me. We will do a 5 night SSR stay followed by a 3 night stay at VB. We will probably have to do a 1 bdrm since we will be staying a Friday and Saturday night.

What are the "turtle" options??

Glad to hear you are going for 3 nights! We did 2 last time and felt like it wasn't enough. You basically get only one day then. Not too relaxing.

Enjoy VB!

We are thinking of doing the very same thing. Sounds like an excellent idea.

The sea turtles nest in the area in June and July, and VB is part of a protected nesting area. Being able to watch the female turtles nest is absolutely awesome.

There are 'Turtle Walks' on certain nights. There is a lottery at the resort the day of the walks, but I've heard there is also a way to sign up through Caribbean Conservation Corporation, but I think there may be a fee involved. Taking your chance on the lottery is free, but the number of walkers allowed is only about 20 or so. We were lucky enough to take this year's first 'walk' on June 1, and the experience is just amazing. The process can take almost 2 hours, yet the children who were there were completely spellbound and quiet the entire time. The youngest 'walker' gets to 'name' the 'mom' turtle. Sometimes, you won't get to see a turtle actually lay her eggs (they don't always cooperate), but we've been lucky both times--although the first time in 1998 we waited until 11:30 P.M. for her to start :) This year's turtle (named Loggy the Loggerhead) was much more considerate!

Even if you can't do the 'walk', there is a program for the kids where they can check out where the turtles have nested in recent days and learn a bit more about sea turtles (and conservation in general). There are also people from Animal Kingdom who help patrol the nesting area and monitor things. They are on the beach all morning (at least) and they're more than willing to answer your questions.

The June Vacation Magic has some additional turtle program info as well.

Hope that helps...again, ENJOY!

We just got back from 6 glorious relaxing days at VB. Definitely need 3 nights at VB to even begin to experience how relaxing it can be. :woohoo:

Isn't the drive only 2 hours max(90 miles)? I'd think of the drive down day as a full day. Leave at 8 there before lunch. Check in, hit the pool/beach, then lunch.
