2 new ships - what must features should they plan into the design?

I for one do not drink and would love an interactive adult area. I hope never to see a casino on a DCL ship. As for transgender bathrooms how about family bathrooms that any one can use. I think a non water play area for little kids would be a very good idea, they really have no place to play except their cabins for most of the time. I would also like to see some late night early morning dinning options.

I just responded with this. I wish I had seen yours first.

Lots of discussion earlier. I was away for many hours and came back to see that there must have been a number of them removed for being "off-topic", mine included. It is a topic that people have distinct opinions about. I am also of the camp that can see the "family bathroom" or similar scenario which is a separate room and serves many purposes: parent with kids, person needing assistance therefore room enough for family helper, etc.

Yes, sorry again that was me! You should have also gotten a note mentioning that it was getting mean as well. We try to keep it family friendly here... some posts that quoted more... colorful... responses were also taken down in order to remove them. The conversation piece itself is OK! :)

It seems any post trying to advocate for transgender people's rights get removed but I will say this a separate room does not serve transgender people as they just want to fit in or pass they don't want to be singled out by having to use a different room than everyone else. Transgender people are not anymore deviant than cisgender people and should have the same rights.

When the dining rooms were designed, it was with the understand that it would be more cruise-traditional SHARED TABLES and there was more than 2 feet of space between them. The more people have demanded they get their own table, the closer the tables have gotten to each other.

My vote is to use the space to create non-cruise ship type dining rooms, where regardless of party size, you won't be expected to share tables with strangers. Many people are demanding separate tables anyway- might as well make proper room for them.

No one indicated deviancy. All posts re issue were not removed either. <confused>.

Probably not the forum to re-initiate the discussion. Moving on.

Someone advocated a transgender bathroom. An individual "Family" type bathroom was the alternative of that. Not all transgendered people are uncomfortable with a special bathroom. Not all are uncomfortable in either bathroom. Nobody said transgender people were deviant. Do they not already have the right to use whichever bathroom they identify with? (Honestly, I don't know.) Either way, having a family bathroom fits quite a few needs for all people and definitely doesn't infringe on anyone's rights.

Well people are saying they would not wabt their daughters sharing a space woth a transgender woman so what does tha mesn? Anyways tye place to call oit discrimination is everywhere a disney forum your living roombor your work. It's our responsability not look aeays and call it out.

Oh, and also, I'm all for Asian... As long as they have cooked non-swimming stuff there as well. Asian is so much more than nasty raw swimming things, contrary to what some people seem to think.

Everyone has their own tastes. It surprises me though how many people say that sushi is disgusting, but have no problems eating rare beef.

So I have had this idea for awhile - is it possible to do a 5 day castaway cay adventure sometime - sail there on day 1 - have 5 days to do whatever we want - let us stay out til 10 pm there or later - then sail back on the last day? stay in port all night or go cruise around - idk... I could see this as being a huge hit and a mega port adventure money maker for Disney.
Just think - adult dining on the beach, wine, champagne. Night luau, tiki torches, ship right there to get back on and do whatever. Activities galore, etc...

What about the other ships? They want to stop at Castaway also. :rolleyes1

Additionally, I've heard there are some nasty bugs that come out at night on the island. I've wondered about the summer months, when it doesn't get dark until 9pm, why it's not possible to make the all aboard time something like 7pm. But as our astute fellow posters pointed out, all the workers need to return to the ship to work the dining rooms and other areas.

Now, what i would love to see is a 7 or 8-night double-dip with stops at Castaway the first and last day.

I would think this would seriously cut into the other ships being able to port at Castaway Cay. With 4 ships max possible in the Caribbean/Bahamas circuit - that's 4 days already taken up at CC. Plus CC isn't set up for nighttime activities, that would require more upgrades for power usage. I've always read that one reason that DCL doesn't overnight there (and leaves fairly early the day they are there) are the bugs at night. That, coupled with the necessity to leave/redock every night/morning could cut into the costs.

The reason that the ships leave CC when they do is due to distance from PC. The ships are due back in port for turnaround between 530 and 6 and its a 12 hour run from CC to the pier, and at least that long to offload and load fresh equipment and food, and stores for the next trip. It usually takes 6 or 8 hours alone to take on fuel. The bug situation is handled naturally, the same way they do at most of the parks. They plant stuff bugs don't like. And use other natural bugs that keep the mosquitos and things down and almost non existant.

What DCL could do is more double dips to the island. Right now the Dream and Fantasy are there on Sun,Weds and Fri. That leaves Sat,Mon,Tues, and Thurs. Plenty of room for double dips.
A 3rd ship out of PC doing 3/4 would take out 2 of those days and a 4th ship out of PC or Miami or Texas would take 1 day possibly 2 depending on the fleets disposition in the world. I'm thinking 5 ships will be on the east coast, with 1 floating Europe, with 1 ship on the west coast doing Alaska/Mexico. That would leave 4 ships permanently in the Carribean, with 1 floating Europe, then back to the Carribean again.

What I would like seen incorporated into the new ships, is elevators that open into common areas, not Cabanas like the aft elevators do.

I don't eat rare beef either.

For the record, I don't eat anything that swims as its primary mode of being - cooked or otherwise. It makes me gag.

I didn't see that response. That is wrong.

With 4 ships yes that could be a problem, but with the magic in europe, and the wonder in alaska during the summer months, that only leaves 3 cc days being used. As the two new ships do not have home ports as of yet, I think we should not include them.
Yes cc would require street lighting to operate after dark. It may already be there but cleverly disguised or hidden for the workers? I'm sure it could be done, and also the ship could be used as a mobile power plant for any additional electricity needed! The wonder, dream and fantasy already have the ability to cold iron (to take power from the shore instead of running their engines while in port) so I would think that could be reversed?

Princess Shmoo, are you sure they do have to undock at night now they have an immigration check point as you get off the ship? I've read reports of the ship docking late at night or early hours when bad weather could cause them to miss the port the next day?

They could do a double dip of two days in a row at cc schedule permitting!
I think it would be wonderful to do this with an evening dinner for couples set up on serenity cove, and fire pits on the beach! No swimming after dark though, so that could be a problem stoping passengers trying to go in the water?

I'd like:
1. More pools
2. More Adult only areas/activities
3. Seats in the Walt Disney Theatre that are either roomier or that the arms can lift
4. Magic bands
5. Disney themed bars
6. Adult classes: Art, crafts, cooking
7. Dedicated Character spots- not just the atrium, alcoves, all that causes congestion

I have to say that I think a "transgender bathroom" is a horrible idea. I'm picturing groups of teens and tweens stalking them, waiting to see who goes in. Family bathrooms would be fine for many groups, of course, but I don't see why trangendered people would ever want to use them, unless they were with a child they weren't comfortable taking into their preferred restroom. Just my .02.

I would love to see larger pools, or something like RCCL's H20 Zone. I thought it was so superior to the Fantasy's pool area. (Larger ship, of course, but still.) I wouldn't object to a casino, although it will probably never happen. In spite of all this, though, I mostly don't want them to be a carbon-copy of competitor ships. Disney has always been special and I hope whatever new features they put in are unique and distinct.

Something that hasn't been mentioned yet - probably because it's a real long shot - is with the extra ships...would another private island/beach be something they consider? Maybe a private port/beach on Cuba (similar to what RCCL has at Labadee, Haiti)?
