We are looking at adding a second home resort, have AKL and are looking at BLT. We have a Dec UY and are not sure if we should look to get the same at BLT or go for something different. I am assuming if we got a Dec UY at BLT it would be easier to combine points for a longer stay (at the seven month mark)some where else.On the other hand we were thinking about a different UY ( maybe June ?) so that we have 2 home resorts with different 11 month windows. I would appreciate any thoughts on the matter. Thanks Much !!

I have 3 home resorts and they are all the same month. When buying them thru Disney I was never asked or thought about having different months. All mine are Feb.I don't have problems getting a reservation.

I own at VGC and AKV and have a June use year on both. I wanted the same because I'd probably get confused if I had two different use years.

Two different use years means two different member accounts. It's not only remembering two different banking deadlines and such.

It also means that to combine points, you have to do a point transfer, which you can only do once per use year.

To do reservations using points from both accounts, you have to book them separately and then "link" them. It may involve something as simple as "checking out" and "checking in" in one move at the front desk or as much as having to actually change rooms.

We have two resorts and one use year. Some will tell you it's no big deal to have two, others will say they wouldn't buy if they had to have two. It's personal preference, but it's certainly easier if you don't have multiple use years.

if you have 2 home resorts, then you have access to 2 resorts at 11 months out based on the number of pts you own at each resort. each contract is effectively separate at 11 months out whether they are under the same UY month or not. at 7 months out, it's easier if you have the same UY month.

you just seem a little confused here. UY month has nothing at all to do with the home resort window - 11 months = 11 months no matter what your UY...UY only affects your banking window.

Unless you plan a specific trip routinely where you're current UY is bad or you find a GREAT deal for something else, I'd go with the same if possible. There's no reason to complicate your life and if they change the banking rules, it might affect those of us with different UY negatively.

One benefit I've heard of different UYs- you have access to two waitlists PER contract (same UY would be two combined) as well as access to the one-time-use-points PER contract. You can only buy the 24 points per contract, with different UYs you have more than one contract, technically.

Additional WL and transfer per separate master though they could change those rules (or interpretations) later.

We own at OKW, HHI, VB and SSR. We have a December use year at all 4 resorts. It works fine for us.

We have two use years. October and December. We don't find it a hassle at all other than having to remember which login in the DVC site is for which contract. We ended up having two use years as we could get our second set of points immediately rather than being 40-something on the wait list.

If you're buying direct then I don't think Disney will give you a different UY.

If you're buying a resale, your UY is whatever that contract's UY is, at least I thought.

So, I don't really think it's a choice that you have. Maybe I'm wrong?

We bought directly through Disney when we did our add on. We were asked if we wanted to waitlist for the same UY or we could have a Dec UY contract within a month. So they will give you a different UY they just recommend against it. We like being able to waitlist twice per membership ID.

But is this because you would have had to WL for the same UY? If your UY was available, they may have told you no. I can see where if they were going to lose a sale because of UY they would make an exception.

However, there's another poster on this site that was denied the possibility of adding on points at GF because she wanted a different UY. They told her no, she had to take the UY she already had.

Yes we would have had to WL for our existing UY. There were a LOT of people ahead of us. They had SSR available in our use year and tried to sell us that before we said we were set on OKW.

This seems to be one of those Disney says one thing and changes their mind and says another situations.

The trip at a bad time would be why I'm considering a different use year. If they bring back the Food and Wine festival back to DCA, my June use year won't be good in case we have to cancel since it ran Apr-May.

This we were told that DVC is no longer allowing you to have more than one UY. The reason told to us was that they are rolling out a new system .

They only thing they could do is refuse to sell an add on size for a different UY. There's no way they could prevent sales as if a different owner and no way to control resale except by ROFR.

I just don't know what this system would be, nor what UY has to do with it. I can tell, by the sale of VGF, that they do not want to give new UYs to owners, but it may have something to do with add on criteria versus new owner and we are still in the add on phase of sales. I suppose we'll see at the end of June.
