Good pix! Sounds like a lot of fun!
Can't wait to see the award winning hub picture, and I liked your commentary on the SMGG warning signs and the people who ignore them.
I grew up in San Jose, and we rarely went to DL. One Thanksgiving we drove to the Grand Canyon to meet up with my aunt and her little family, and the whole way down we tortured my mom and stepdad "can we go to DL can we go to DL" on so on. Had a nice Thanksgiving, GC is so lovely, etc etc, then it was time to drive home. We'd sort of lost heart in begging, and I know there was a long lull in asking about Disneyland. Then I remember it was evening, and back then they still had the big sign off the freeway, and we saw it, and renewed our efforts....can we go can we go can we go...and the mom and stepdad acted like "oh well, yeah, I guess, let's see if they have room", but of course they had this WHOLE thing planned out, LOL> Got to stay at the DLH, when before (if we'd been before, can't recall) and definitely after we just stayed at the Motel 6...first time for room service, how exciting.
It's pretty much the only surprise that's ever worked on me OR that I've enjoyed, so I remember it fondly.
Maybe tell your son you're off to see the swallows at San Juan Capistrano? LOL. Or just something that he would find sooooo boring, etcetc, so he doesn't get excited to see *that*, and can be happy for disney.

Not even that. We live in Sacramento. We homeschool and on the monthly calendar I have the days we are going listed as a field trip. We are getting up "ugly early" and loading him in the car. Going to see how long we can postpone telling him. Hoping we can make it all the way to the hotel before he figures it out. It is his first time at DL. We are WDW people but living in in CA now it only makes sense to go to DL.
Need to get a pretrip report started.
