Was reading a thread on this board re: using 2 gallon ziploc bags instead of spacebags. With using either do you clothes get more or less wrinkled than normal packing? :wave2:

I can't answer your question because I've never used space bags. But on our last few trips to DW, I've used these to pack my daughters clothes. One bag for each day contains the shorts, shirt, underwear, socks, and appropriate hairband. It saved us a TON of time because she wasn't trying to find all the things she needed in the morning and on the last few days we weren't stuck with clothes that didn't go together.

I haven't used the 2-gal. bags but I'm going to try them this trip.

Does anyone know if Hefty makes this size? I've found the 2-gal. ones (in another brand) that you pinch together to close but I'd rather have the zipper ones... they're so much easier & faster. ;)

If you roll the clothes instead of folding them, you'll get less wrinkles.

Also, depending on the size of your kids, the one gallon size may be just fine.

I just bought them.

i got them at Aldi's for 1.99 for 10 freezer (they're thicker that storage) bags.

We never really used these on the way to WDW... but always used them on the way home..... when you dont care about wrinkles! It is great to take all the dirty clothes, socks undies and get them in the ziplock and take out all the air. We were able to make room for other things accumulated during the week.
THey are also great for snacks, wet bathing suits etc etc.

They're also great for putting wallets and fanny packs on water rides !

Walmart sells 2½ gallon bags. I've used them to pack adult clothes. The air that traps inside keeps the wrinkles at bay. I've used the same ones for years and just keep them stored right in the suitcase.

If you are really concerned about wrinkles, pick up a bottle of wrinkle relaxer. I found the "dollar store brand" works just as well. Your clothes won't look freshly ironed, but they won't be wrinkled either. You could just slip the bottle in one of the ziploc bags if you are worried about leakage.

We use a straw to suck the air out of the bag. Close until the opening is only big enough for the straw and suck the air out. Keeps clothes wrinkle free and gives you a little extra packing room!

i am deffinately using this idea i am like the ziplock queen everything goes in one :cool1: and with 5 kids this is the best idea :goodvibes

Hefty makes a 2 1/2 galllon bag. Just bought two boxes at Target. I have also heard they have them at Kroger. I use them to pack for longer trips and trips to Europe and find them great. Tried the space bags once and the seal broke on the first trip. They cost too much for that.

Thank you..I will keep looking! The 2 1/2 gal. bags will be even better IF I can find them.

btw...I live about 4 hours east of you (I noticed your location under your name)...hi, neighbor! :wave2:

I've used a couple of the travel bags besides Space bags (PackMate and PackMaxx). I think it's the PackMate that I prefer--they seem to last longer. I've been using the same ones for about 4 years--probably 20 trips or so.

Prior to the introduction of Space and similar bags, I used one-gallon food bags to keep underwear together. My clothes are too big for them!

The only place I've seen the 2-gallon bags is Smart & Final (purveyor for the restaurant industry). Decided I'm happy with what I have for now! :)

Just be sure to keep an eye on the weight limit of your packed suitcase, no matter which bag you choose. It is very easy to over pack because the clothes take up so much less space.

I found the giant Ziplock bags at Walmart.

I get my Hefty One Zip bags at Target- 2 1/2 gallon size. I bet Costco or Sam's might have them too.

Stuff does get wrinkled, but with my clothes, that doesn't matter since I wear either tees and capri pants or crinkled hippie broomstick skirts, which actually look better for being crunched up in a bag. :)

I find that hanging the clothes in the bathroom while I shower gets out the worst of the creases anyway. I'm not too worried about it, though anything "nicer" that I wouldn't want rumpled goes in a regular garment bag, not one of the Ziplocs.

I get the air out the old fashioned way...put the bag on the bed, sit on it, and close the zipper. Might as well put my, ahem, curves, to good use. ;)

We used Ziploc bags for our undies. I read that tip on a board somewhere. The OP said she didn't like the idea of the searchers touching her underwear!! So we did that. We also brought a space bag for our dirties on the way home so they wouldn't mingle with the cleans!! I just rolled the air out of both of them.

I have never used the bags before but I plan to use them for our next trip. It is a great idea that I have never thought of. As for clothes getting wrinkled, everytime I have ever stayed at a Disney resort, there has been an iron in our room.

Thanks for the tip. I didn't even know you could buy the bags this big. I've always used the reg. size ones for the socks and undies. I figured if an inspector had to go through my bag, it would help keep things from falling out.
