Okay, I got this postcard in the mail a couple days ago saying that we can get 2 free Southwest or US Air plane tickets and dinner for 2 if we call the number listed. So I call the number. The lady that answers says that it is a promotion for a new store that will be opening in our area. It is called Savers Unlimited. She said it is like a Sams, Costco, even a Direct Buy. All we have to do is go to a local hotel where the company execs are having this promo this weekend. We have to make an appt and it takes about 45 minutes to listen to their little speech. Then we get the tickets, which are good for a full year. Usually, I would toss this is the garbage, but we are going out of town for Xmas this year, and these tickets would be a HUGE help. Anyone have any experience with this? What should I do? Thanks for any advice you can give me. :)

I can only tell you what my gut instinct is - and that would be to stay away. Nothing is free, right? Either it will be a pressure sales pitch for something - membership like at Direct Buy (which I've heard some terrible things about) or it will be at least a waste of your time - I highly doubt it would only take 45 minutes. I did Google the name of the store and get nothing - absolutely nothing, which seems weird in any case.

Even if it is legit, most vouchers like those purchased by the companies to give away have huge amounts of black out dates and limitations, so you are unlikely to be able to use them anywhere near the holidays.

If it's like Direct Buy then you need to subscribe or join for a year at like $5000. Not a deal.

My husband made me sit thru a time share presentation down the road from where we live. We got free airline tickets but we couldn't use them together and they had to be used during a certain time and we had to stay at one of their hotels also in order to use them. It was a pain and we never turned them in to use. It was a postcard we received also.

I did something similar recently...mostly out of curiousity.

It was a presentation on a travel company - you pay a fee to belong then get lots of benefits. Interesting and MAYBE a good deal for the right type of traveler. Started out that the fee was $6000 to join....by the time we said no about 6 or 8 times, it was down to about $1800. :) So if anyone ever considers joining anything like this - just remember to keep saying no until the bitter end to get your best deal.

DH and I did say no. We got the promotion anyway. The 'free' airfare is some sort of 'wanna fly away' (I think that's the name) deal where you book your tickets through hotels.com and then have to PAY A FEE to get your certificate good to get reimbursed for your airfare. The fee was only about $25 or so - but the deal is that I am SURE they make out on it because you have to have certificates, boarding passes, receipts, etc. to submit after travel to get your $$. AND you only have one shot at it - they will not tell you if something is missing and you can re-send it.

I am trying it for our airfare to CA next year....we'll see how it goes. Keeping my fingers crossed.

One is that if you do take advantage of this, make sure that you have copies of all of the items. When you send them to the company, include a cover letter which lists exactly what you have attached and that it is all of the itemks they require. Send this by Certified Mail with Return Receipt, and include the Certified label number on the cover letter. Save all copies, including the return receipt, until such time as you get the refund.

I would suggest you do a Google search on the company before you do anything, especially see if there is anything under "rip-off reports".

And just for the fun of it, check to see what it will cost you to go directly through the airline and directly through the hotel company and compare it to what you will have to pay to go through their web site.

Seriously? You think they're going to give you $500 (at least) of airline tickets for free? RUN AWAY!!!!

But to get more info, check out this link http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-800-813-6994

And scroll down a bit until you see the name Theresa Manning.

There are different names used by this group.

OP here...Thanks for this! I've decided after reading everyone's advice, that we are NOT doing this! Thanks all!
