2 Extra Points?

So this is the first time I've had points that will expire before I am able to use them. But it's only 2 points, so I assume this is just a case of letting them expire, right? I mean...it's not enough to rent out. So they just disappear, right?

It's 2 points from our 2024 UY that were banked into 2025. Our next trip is during our 2026 UY.

Pretty much invite your closest family members and have a nice service as the points die. Only about a $20 loss.

It’d be cool if DVC had some items you could spend straggler points like this on. Like a coffee mug or something. It’d be better than nothing.

I’ve done this before too and it’s a great trick, but I don’t think Clara has any trips that would qualify.

Member Services have been known to help with a small slip up made while a member is learning the ropes. No guarantee, and if it happens will likely use up you ‘one shot’.

Eta - if you’d like to try, call them and ask what can you do with these 2 points, and/or how could you prevent from happening in the future. That should open the conversation. They might show some sympathy.

You know if they made a special batch of little DVC pins to trade orphaned points for, some people would probably orphan points on purpose to collect them lol.

Nope. Next trip is June 2026. Our UY is June. We actually banked ALL of our 2025 points into 2026. And the 2 leftover were ones from 2024.

It's at most $40, less than a Really Good Pizza. I would not sweat them.

Perhaps the site owners could create an orphan points forum so that other members could adopt these points to use in a reservation before they expire. I believe you can transfer points to another member, but only once per year.

The practical answer is to just let it go...however...

I once had two points that were going to expire in June. I was going to let them go. BUT, we happened to be in South Carolina in February and needed a hotel. We saw that there was a studio availability at HHI for that night. So we borrowed 8 points and booked the night, and drove about 50 miles out of our way to use those points lol.

We ended up staying two more nights at HHI to avoid a snowstorm in the north. It was the first time we were at HHI, so it was worth the trip.

It could be worse, I'd rather lose a couple of points to the ether than be short a couple of points for the trip you want to book even with having already borrowed and bought OTUPs.
