How It Came to Be​

Okay - so I, Roni, am posting this update, but as you will see, Shannon has really done the heavy lifting on this one, because, well, let’s just say she has MUCh better recall abilities than I do. Remember: Shannon is BLUE.

For a long time Roni, our good DIS friend Amanda (amandaw), and I talked about our 3 families vacationing together-specifically doing a Disney Cruise together in 2015. It was a lot of fun to talk about but eventually everyone booked separate trips for next year.

It WAS a lot of fun to talk about - I mean, why wouldn’t you want to be a part of this????

My family has committed to taking an as-yet-undecided Disney trip of some sort with Bryan’s mom and brother’s family to celebrate my MiL’s 60th birthday next spring (and the lack of planning going into that is a whole ‘nother story). Bry only has enough vacation time for one trip, so that was that for us.

*sigh* It was disappointing, but understandable. And, honestly, coordinating something like that would be HARD. So we went our separate vacation-planning ways. Or so I thought…… I decided that Willow and I needed to do a repeat of our insanely indulgent vacation of 2013 - i.e., if we were going to cruise out of Florida with DCL (which we WERE), we were going to do WDW first. And it was looking like it would have to be in August again - not ideal heat- and crowd-wise, but what are you gonna do with these dang school calendars?

When I heard Roni’s plans the wheels started turning. I knew that our first DCL trip needed to be one Bryan could go on because he’s been interested in that for a long time, and the cruise she chose is the week before Maddie will start school, which is a little close for comfort.

So, no DCL for us this time, but secretly I wondered if I could make a few days at WDW for Maddie and I happen. When the summer discounts came out and I got a good idea of what it would cost me (It’s wayyyy less expensive when you have one less adult to feed, lodge, and buy park tickets for) I finally spilled my plan to Roni. (I did eventually tell Bryan too, he’s happy for us LOL)

And I was all, “Um, I don’t know, Shannon, that seems questionable.” No, I wasn’t! I was insanely happy!

So happy that, if memory serves (and it often does not), I even moved our cruise up a week to make it more doable, because I think the one I booked was even later than Shannon is remembering. But something doesn’t seem right about that because Shannon is the one who can actually remember things…..

VERY quickly a few days quickly became a week, and a few shared meals and rides became a shared trip. We were so excited!

I pretty much look like this all the time now!

I suppose I do have the better memory. Just don't ask me any historical facts or dates. I have no room in my brain for those. Baseball statistics and Disney trip planning-that I have room for!

And yes, I believe that Roni did change their cruise to accommodate Maddie and I. We are very grateful that she did that.

Is anyone else loving the mental image of Roni dancing like Elaine? Or teen girl freaking like Colbert?

Yes, we are so so so excited! I must say that reading your reports made me much more sentimental than I usually am. That and the fact that Sidney (DD) is leaving for college at the end of next month.

I can't help but think back to when she was Willow's age. Nice thing is we still share a strong love for Disney. She even says she wants a Disney wedding some day, in the far far future.

I love everything about how this came about. If there is one thing I love more than Disney itself, it's sharing time in Disney with special friends (DISer friends at that).
So glad that after everything that this came to be, especially when it seemed so unlikely at one time.

Although I'm sure that most of the baseball stats are Cubs related and that in itself is a bit disturbing.
