2 Different Contracts - question about 11mo ressie

We have 2 different contracts, 1 SSR, 1BWV, each 150 points. I want to make a reservation for a multi-family trip next Nov. at BWV at the 11 month mark. Using the currently available BWV points and borrowing the entire next years's BWV points, I will be 7 points short of what I need. My question is, if I transfer 7 points from the SSR contract to the BWV contract, will I still be able to reserve the last night's stay at 11 months, or does the transfer require that I make the ressie at 7 mos.?

Transferred points are supposed to retain their original Home Resort and Use Year status. If you want to make a reservation at BWV at 11 months, they will all need to be BWV points.

In the past transfers did assume the status of the contract into which they were moved, but MS seems to be moving toward removing that loophole at this time, so I wouldn't count on it. It would be best to find a BWV member able to transfer points into your account.

Good luck! :)

Doc provides good advice. An alternative might be to pay for the last night using a cash reservation and linking it to your point reservation so you don't have to move.

Just an option in case you don't want to hassle with transferring 7 points, or use up your "once per year" transferring privileges. That same rule might keep others from being interested in transferring only 7 points and using their one transfer up.

Are you staying on any Friday or Saturday nights? If so, I'd make all of the reservation except for one Friday or one Saturday night. At 7 months, I call to book that last night with my SSR points. If you call as soon as MS opens, your chances are very good. Friday and Saturday nights book up later than the weekday nights due to their higher point cost. Even if you have to waitlist for that last night, I still think it would come through for you.

When you say you have two different contracts, do you mean you have two totally separate contracts, each with it's own unique blue membership card?

Or do you mean one contract with two different resorts, basically a master contract and an add-on contract, both under the same membership number.

If it's the latter, one master + add-on, then you can't transfer points at all.

If it's the former, two separate memberships, then you can transfer points and the comments made by the other posters apply.

If 'this is true' (two separate memberships), then you can transfer points and the comments made by the other posters apply.

I have two different blue membership cards: 230 points at SSR with a June UY, and 40 points at OKW with a Dec UY. So, Caskbill is stating that I can transfer from one resort to the other at any point during the year (up to one transfer a year)?

I could then reserve rooms at OKW for December 20 as early as Jan 20, using all 270 points from one year?

Just added the second contract, and have yet to discover all the intricacies of DVC!

Some good advice overall above. My advice is to transfer the points now and then call back later to see if you can make the additional night at 11 months out. I bet you will be able to do so. Worst case scenario is when 7 months comes up for your first day, call DVC and sub the extra 7 points into that day then use the freed up BWV points to make the last day. I also agree with leaving any weekend nights as the last one and even consider doing that night for cash through MS.

Thank you all for your valuable input. It's wonderful how helpful everyone is on these boards.

From reading the boards over the last several months I was aware of Disney trying to close the loophole for transfers. I wasn't sure what my situation would be considered, because of the 58 points needed for the last night, 51 would be BWV points. But, I absolutely want to abide by the rules.

I think I will go with the suggestion to wait on booking the Saturday night until the 7 month mark.

And, I do have two separate memberships (and 2 different use years). We purchased SSR direct from Disney and BWV on resale.

Again, many thanks.

No, that's not correct. Technically transferred points still retain their resort and use year month. They'd be the same points and just in the other contract.

In the past, the DVC computers would allow points to 'morph' from one home resort to another. So what you said might have been possible in the past, but it was never suppose to work that way. Since this past summer, DVC has been more stringent on coding transferred points so they don't 'morph' into a different home resort.

Thanks, Caskbill. I did not think my "morphing" sounded correct, but some of the previous comments on this thread seem to be suggesting that my transfer "plan" was acceptable.

Thanks for your comment!

Actually we have seen no evidence that DVC has shored up the transfer accounting, only a lot of talk that people hoped it would be so. The only way to know is if someone does a transfer then sees what happens. Personally I hope they do but as of yet there is no evidence they've actually done so.
