Going to DL for the first time at the end of July (we've been to WDW 6 times). We are planning one park per day, should I get hoppers & MaxPass? would we really get more done or just end up chasing around Fps? I read that DL is a lot smaller in land size than WDW parks so my assumption is that it will be less walking in general?

With two days, I wouldn't necessarily park-hop, but I would get MaxPass to maximize your potential for doing everything you want to do.

I agree!

I'm usually a park hopper at DL, but if you're there for only 2 days, I'd skip the park hopper. Right now a 2-day pass is $225 per adult but that pass with a park hopper is $280. My wife, son, and I are going to DL at the end of July as well with only a 2-day pass, and skipping the park hopper is saving us $165.

Look through this classic thread for very helpful information: A DLR Guide for WDW Vets. It is pre-SWGE, but still very, very helpful. It will give you some perspective on DLR compared to what you are used to at WDW -- that will help you make a decision on getting park hoppers. Hopping is super easy at DLR -- the two parks are just a football field's length apart from each other -- more like one big park. You do not have to go through security to get from one park to the other -- hopping takes about 5 minutes or so on average. (We hop just for food!) If you get MaxPass ("Maxpass/Fastpass: an overview and some strategy" by @Skyegirl1999 - www.disboards.com/threads/maxpass-fastpass-an-overview-and-some-strategy.3726246/), that will allow you to get FPs on your smartphone for rides in one park while you are still in the other park -- a nice perk that saves a lot of running.
Bottom line: you don't need to get hoppers to have a magical time at DLR, but they can be very fun and are much easier to use at DLR than at WDW. So definitely look into the option!

Yes and yes! We just did 2 days with a park hopper and max pass. It just makes it so much easier. We didn't have to figure out where the fast pass distributions were...so easy to use our phones!

On our first day we went to DL. My youngest daughter didn't want to hop to DCA because she wanted to keep it special for the next day. We had never been before! On the 2nd day, we started at DCA, and hopped over to DL in the afternoon to ride our favorite rides from the day before and then we kept watch on our phone so we could get a fast pass for RSR and the Incredicoaster for night...so when it got dark we hopped back to DCA rode those rides and watched World of Color!

I hope this helps! Happy Planning!
