2 beds instead of 1

But perhaps, IF AKLV gets built, they could theoretically make all the 1BR units with a set of bunkbeds (after all, they already have them for some of the inn rooms). I think it would be a major, major selling point for AKLV. It would certainly make the resort the most appealing DVC property for our family. ;)
People are thinking what's best for themselves or people they know rather than from a business move. There are economic reasons to not build a room that will easily sleep more than 2-4 in this size. Even though the studios and 1 BR will sleep 4, they really are only designed for 2 for the most part. And as much as many members could care less, DVC must conform to a degree to the industry standards if they want to offer an exchange option.

anyone else besides me - like to see 2 queen beds instead of 1 queen bed and sleeper sofa in any new studios.

now I don't mind the sleeper sofa - but on my old back these things are beginning to be a pain.

a 1-bedroom won't help - same situation.

I agree with you. I would much rather have the two queen size beds. When we use the sofa bed we always leave it out instead of folding it back up each day anyway. I would rather have the two queen size beds.

I agree with the thought of making some 1 bedrooms with a King and bunk option or 2 queens in the master bedroom. I'm not saying all of them should be changed because I do like the King set-up.
But what happens to the family of 5 (which is becoming as common as the family of 4) who have to get a 2 bedroom when I'm sure a 1 bedroom would be fine if it would sleep 6 instead of 4. I can understand that when you've got pre-teens or older you would want to just get a 2 bedroom for the space and bathroom, but what about all of the families who have 3 kids under 10. I'm sure those 3 kids don't all want to share a pull-out couch and who can really pack an air matrress? And really, to use up alot of extra points so a 8, 5, and 3 year old can have a studio size room and own bathroom? Right now I've only got two young DDs so we fit great in a studio, but what happens when #3 comes along...I don't want to put out the points for a 2 bedroom (we like to go several times a year, instead of 1 big trip). I just think it's kind of silly that the studio sleeps 4, the 1 bedroom sleeps 4, and then jumps to a unit that sleeps 8- the 2 bedroom. It would be nice to see a few of the units in each resort offered as a sleep 6. But that's just my opinion.

Timeshares are not for everyone, including DVC. If one has 5 people, at some point you will need to get a 2 BR. It is not DVC's responsibility to create a cheaper alternative for 5 or 6 other than the 2 BR. At some points I suspect DVC will become more strict in this area than they are now and many may be sorely disappointed. Plus anyone that can't afford enough points to get a 2 BR for 5 or 6 likely shouldn't be invested in an expensive timeshare period.

But lets just say for sake of discussion that DVC created a sleep 6 1 BR. No way would they be the same number of points as a regular 1 BR. Likely they'd be about 60% of the difference between a current 1 vs 2 BR. Say a studio was 10, 1 BR 20 & 2 BR 30. The sleep 6 1 BR would likely be 25 or 26. Then DVC has to keep up with an extra room type, something I doubt they're willing to do. And if all the 1 BR were that way, it would be a problem as well. They standard 1 BR is that way for a reason, because market research for timeshares says that is the best configuration and use of space to sell it to the masses. Any major variation might sell well to a minority, but it would be a small minority.

Nope! I prefer the rooms the way they are.
If I want two beds, I can book a room at OKW or use any other standard hotel room on Disney property. Don't take away my sofa!

Love the space that a sofa sleeper provides the studio although I would vote in favor of the existing queen bed be replaced with a king size bed. How much space would that reduce the “living” area?
I would love to see that tried in a dedicated studio room or two and see what kind of request it would generate.

This is the whole reason we invested in timeshares back in '94 ! First Vistana, then DVC. I think it's the way to go if you have more than 2 kids and vacation often. It's the whole reason I haven't driven anything less than a minivan since I became a mother of 3. Tried a Ford Explorer once (loved the car but hated how my kids were crammed in there). It's the same with hotel rooms........one sleeping on an air mattress all the time gets old. Hotel rooms aren't set up for families of 5 or larger. We used to get 2 rooms and ask for connecting and some times we were lucky if we even got adjoining or on the same side of the hall. My dh would have to sleep in one room with half the kids and I would have to sleep in the other room with the rest. Not a fun vacation. It would be nice if the 1 bedrooms could sleep more than 4----especially at OKW because those rooms are so large anyway. But even now, with my ds (19) starting to drift away from wanting to go to disney, our 2 dd's don't want to share a sofa pull out in the studios or 1 bedrooms, so it'll be either an OKW studio or 2 bedrooms for us because we're spoiled after all these years :rotfl:
It's nice for solo travlers or a couple to have the sofa & extra floor space, I agree, but if one actually has to sleep on them for a week, then it can pose problems (for alot of adults and teens). I could not sleep on the pull-outs for a week and remain a happy person (even in the Happiest Place on Earth) ;)

guess I don't need a poll for this one.

boy I got out voted!!!

Glad the majority is happy with queen & sleeper sofa!!!!

I guess I better just stick to OKW or VB inn.

I'm even "giving in" to DH for our next VB stay. I'm booking a studio, so we have the sofa bed to sit on. This is really a big concession for me, I LOVE the OV inn rooms.

Bobbi :goodvibes

PS. But it would be fine with me if some studios in the new resorts had 2 Q's and other configurations for 1 bedroom. These things would make life more complicated, but I think DVC can be improved.

Count us in with those that do not want the studios to change. Leave those sofabeds right where they are, thank you very much!
We are ones that NEVER have the maximum # of guest allowed per DVC villa, so we always have enough beds for everyone. When we stay in a studio it is just 2 people, we like having the sofa. A studio with 2 beds is just like a regualr hotel room to us and it feels much more cramped than the bed/sofa combo.

Regular hotel rooms, yes.....I would agree, but OKW studios feel roomier to me . OKW studios are a little bigger sq ft wise and also I think the shape of the room makes it feel roomier (speaking for myself) ? OKW studios are 376 sq ft, BWV 359 sq ft and the others are 355-359 sq ft. And true, OKW studios are set up more hotel-like, but we are fine with that.
But I can definitely understand how some would like the sofa---it is nice to sit on (just not sleep on). ;)

I was speaking of the OKW studios. Even though they are 17 sq ft larger, to us, they feel smaller and more cramped because you have less floor space. To us, they feel like hotel rooms.
I am speaking of the studio when it is used just as a studio, when the studio is the 2nd br of a 2 br, then we like the 2 bed set up more so. Because then we need both beds since we have more people, and also we do not need the sofa since we have a full living room.

I agree. I would prefer a king bed and sleeper sofa in the studios. Best of both worlds -- nice big bed for sleeping and an open feeling to the room with a sofa rather than a second bed. I don't think they could squeeze in a king bed into the existing studios. It would be nice if they had made them a bit larger so that this could have been an option.

We don't ever plan to stay in studios, but I can see how people would want an actual bed over a sofabed. I can also see how others want the floor space if no one is traveling with them.

I also wish that some 1 bedrooms had 2 queen beds-more like a hotel room. We have a king at home and I wouldn't change it, but I like hotel room set-ups (2 queens) more than condo set-ups. People are probably wondering why I bought a timeshare-the reason is that DVC has it's timeshare attached to some deluxe hotels. I didn't look at it as buying a timeshare, I looked at it as pre-paying my hotel stays at the boardwalk.

I like the idea of 2 queens when more than one child wants to take a nap, having a younger child in the room with you-not wondering if they are trying to open balcony or entrance doors while you're sleeping. True story: when my DD was 2 we woke up our first night at the BC to the sound of her trying to open the door. It was banging into the saftey lock thing at the top if the door. We have no idea where she thought she was going-she wasn't potty trained yet, so it's unlikely she was trying to go to the bathroom. If we had been in a 2 bdr villa we might not have heard her. That scares me. I like the idea of small children in the room with me. But that's just me.

I can understand this. We used to travel alot with the kids' grandmom and she would sleep in the second bedroom with the two youngest. My son would sleep on the sofa bed in the living room.
