2 Bedroom Ressie Blues

I am so in the mood to vent. I'm new to this DVC stuff.

We made our first 100 point purchase (with an additional one time 100 bonus points) at BLT in 8/10. We used those points to go to BWV (studio) in 2/2011. With the additional points and going into our 2011 use year, we're able to reserve another vacation for Thanksgiving 2011 at BLT with a studio. However, after going to BWV in February 2011 and having the BEST VACATION EVER, we came home and promptly purchased another contract of 125 points (with an additional 125 bonus points to use).

So with our pocket brimming full of additional points, we want to share our Disney love and bring my parents along for our vacation that we have booked later this year. We have/had hopes of switching out our studio and reserving a 2BR. Knowing that trying to find a 2BR at any resort Thanksgiving week at this point would be slim to nil, we're willing to switch our vacation dates. I called today in the hopes of finding a 2BR from 10/22 - 10/29. We were mostly flexible on the resort we are willing to book at (there are two that we don't have desire to try) as well as the the view.

I called memberservices this afternoon and I had my MS lady check through my preferred options...and we ticked through them one by one with no luck, I was giving up hope. But then, she found a 2BR Standard view at AKV!! I was so happy!!

However, in a matter of about 10 seconds, MS lady apparently went to get cancel our studio at BLT in November, and in that timeframe the 2BR AKV was snatched up by someone else. I had even told her to book the 2BR and THEN cancel the studio ressie (we should have had more than enough points to accomodate this temporary one-minute fix).

I am so totally bummed. Although I'm not normally a pity party person, I just can't help it right now. I'm miffed at MS right now. I'm trying to think logically-you think she should have been able to put the 2BR AKV room "on hold" for a few minutes while she cancelled our other ressie.

Any advice? Would MS lady been able to "hold" the reservation for a few minutes to avoid this mess?

Did you get on the WL for all resorts then? That is what I would do and my guess is something will come through in a 2BR...

At the time that this happened, I didn't even think about it. I'm going to call first thing tomorrow morning and get on that waitlist. See? I really am new to this. I just need a little bit more patience, I guess.

By all means, call in the morning and get on the wait list. I'm sure your 2 bedroom will come through.

You can have only two active waitlists so you will have to choose two resorts or two booking categories at the same resort for your waitlists. You won't be able to waitlist "all resorts". If either comes through it will be booked automatically and your second waitlist will be cancelled. Just mentioning this so you can give it some thought before you call MS.

Just an FYI, you can only have two active wait lists at one time. So you'll need to decided on what resorts.

Also have you reserved a second studio for your parents? If not you could try for a one bedroom for yourselves and switch the studio to parents. Sometimes you'll find 1 BRs are available but 2 BRs are not. It will cost extra points per night, but will provide a place for you all to dine and privacy for both your parents and yourselves.

From your post am I to think that you do not want to stay at SSR? I booked less than 7 months prior to Thanksgiving last year and got our 2 bedroom, Congress park, Downtown Disney view. There were nine of us so I had also booked a studio. I would be surprised at this early date if SSR had nothing available, but it is possible.
