Can this be done?

When the whole family is there we will need a 2 bedroom. They cannot stay the entire week, so can we book the 2 bedroom lock-off for 5 nights, then drop the studio portion when it isn't needed when they leave?

Thus, being able to continue to use the villa as a 1 bedroom without having to move.

I have asked before and was told no. The only way to do it is to book a 2br for the portion you need and book a 1br (with the possibility of switching rooms) for the other portion. Not sure if anyone has different info.

This is correct.

You would also want to have MS note that it's a 'Continuing Stay' on the reservations. Not sure if they can since the room sizes would be different, but they should be able to put some kind of note on the reservation to alert the room assigner that you would like to stay in the 1-bedroom portion after checking out of the 2-bedroom lockoff.

Also make sure that you talk to the front desk about your request when you check in. Odds are your cleaning schedule may get screwed up as each reservation should follow the cleaning policy.

We did the opposite in the past - a one bedroom to a two bedroom lockoff. But, we had to make sure we booked a lockoff two bedroom. When we checked in, we asked to see if we were blocked into the same one bedroom portion with the studio opening up to make a lockoff two bedroom villa. But you cannot do it with a dedicated two bedroom, only a lockoff.

Which resort is it? Some resorts have dedicated one bedrooms available, so it's possible they would put you in one of those because the lock offs are booked.
