Thinking of going down for a quick visit and staying off site but haven't been in July. what should we be expecting? Is it shoulder to shoulder down the walk ways?

Yes, 4th of July week is one of the busiest weeks of the year.

Go with realistic expectations. Long lines everywhere will be the norm, especially with the holiday on a weekend this year. The heat can sap your energy, so plan lots of breaks. We find it helpful to stick to salads and fruit (and ice cream) instead of heavier meals. The parks often reach peak capacity on July 4, so pick a park and plan to stay there. It is a party atmosphere for sure.....just be flexible in your plans and keep your water bottle handy.
