1st visit need help

We are new DVC members and are planning a week long trip for late 08 or Jun 09, planning on staying at SSR, not sure if we'll book thanksgiving week or New years or if we should wait until June 09.
Questions:
1-As guests can we pool hop?
2-Is there a fireworks show for NYE?
3-What is the weather like in Nov, Dec, June?
4-Do we need to rent a car?
5-Golf discounts for members?
6-Any golf course recommendations?
7-Room recommendations?

1-As guests can we pool hop? Yes, except for Stormalong Bay at BC and the pool at AKL, and all pools at certain times of the year

3-What is the weather like in Nov, Dec, June? Personal preference - but Nov/Dec are really nice weather, but can be a little unpredictable temperature-wise (Dec esp), June is very hot.
4-Do we need to rent a car? You don't have to but it's convenient - we liked having a car at SSR mostly because we don't do the buses at any resort
5-Golf discounts for members? Yes, info is on the DVC member website

PS - did you know there's a whole section of the DIS boards devoted to DVC? Just scroll down a bit on the main DISboards page and you will see those forums.

If you don't have a reservation for Thanksgiving or Christmas 2008 already, you probably won't get one. Those get booked up solid by 7 months out, except for a day here or there. You need to be planning an Oct/Nov/Dec reservation at least a year before. You can book June 09 now.

There are blackout periods for pool hopping for DVC members. And you cannot hop to any of the pools at the YC/BC/BCV or AKL/AKV. Otherwise, sure, you can pool hop. You'll need to have your DVC member card with you can check at the resort before you head over to make sure it isn't too crowded.

There is a DVC golf membership, but I don't know anything about it.

There are lots of fireworks on NYE and the days before.
