Just booked a 1BR at Hilton Head for 8 nts arriving 4/15...Can't wait. We decided it was time to give it a try.

We are fliyng into Savannah and renting a car.

Would appreciate any info. anyone would like to share.

Is the beach good for boogy boarding and can we rent them locally, or should we bring ours?

Thanks,
Deb

My first trip to HHI was this past summer, I absolutely loved it! The CM's were some of the best I have ever encountered. They are so outgoing and it is obvious that they love their jobs. When we were there the beach was great for boogy boards and you can rent them at the beach. I know that some folks found it cheaper to buy them down there then actually rent them. I am sure that someone here will fill you in on that. I am sure you will have a wonderful time!

Patty3,
Were you in a 1BR? Where was your room located? The only request I made was for non-smoking. Is it better to be near the pool? The property doesn't look to spread out, so any location would be fine I guess...

I was in a 2 bedroom unit, I believe it was bldg 30 or 31. If it were me, I would definitely request a top floor marsh view. There was a family of 4 above us and it sounded like there was a basketball game going on as well as shoes dropping quite a bit. I do not think that it was this particular family's fault, just the insulation factor, maybe??, but you can hear folks just walking up and down the outside stairs. Someone here had posted about the great marsh view they had and you could see the fireworks from their room. I would love that!

I hope you have a great trip!
My husband and I went last July and this past June. We get a studio and both times stayed in the main lodge building.
The walk to the pool/food place was about 5 minutes.
We absolutely love the beach---plenty of boogie boarders out there.
The drive to/from Savannah is easy and the airport is small-easy to navigate.

May I suggest a wet suit? ;) April could be pretty chilly ocean temps!

Enjoy

Our favorite 1 BR at HH (so far-haven't yet gotten to them all) is on the third floor of the main lodge-1137. There's also another one right across the hall (1138?) that we haven't gotten yet, but it faces the water and some people have seen Dolphins from there, so hopefully we'll get to try that one when we go next March.

re ocean temps: we are from new england... Would the temps be colder than they (in the 60s) up here on the outer cape or in Maine? We usualy come out of the water with icy feet and hands...we do use wetsuits, too.( And this is in the summer!)
Thanks, Deb

I was able to secure a grand villa (called last week) with a passholder rate on 11/21 on our way to Disney World -- can't wait!!!!!

Deb,
I found a website that lists the average water temp for April as 67º. www.hiltonheadisland.com

We really enjoy boogy boarding there. We rented them on our first trip, but have since bought our own and take them along.

Simba's Mom -

We were in your room! We loved the location! Didn't see any dolphins in the marsh (due to Hurricane Frances), but it was so quiet and peaceful back there.

Guess we had first-timer's good luck!

There is a Wal-Mart a couple of miles away. I bought boards for the kids there.

I believe that most 1 BR are in the main lodge building and the one next to it. So having one close to the pool is unlikely. It seems as though there are maybe a few 1 BR units under the GVs. That being said, nothing is too far from anything - it is a very compact resort. I'm sure you'll have a terrific time. We have been twice and enjoyed it a great deal.

I just got back from HHI on Sunday. Wal mart had Boogie Boards for $4. They also had those skinny wood ones. Someone has left two boards on the steps of 2811.

What I noticed last week was that the big waves were breaking right at high tide time. It changes every day. Once the tide starts back out, they are small again. I only got in about 30 of real good riding.

The activity person will post the tide times on the chalkboard outside the gift shop at around 8 a,m
