Our 1st trip home to BCV. Ressie was made 9 months earlier, only request was non-smoking. We checked in around 7pm, got really nice “welcome home” from both gatekeeper and CM checking us in. CM (porter) gave us a nice tour of BCV prior to our room. The studio is #447, the minute the door opened, very strong smoke odor overwhelmed us. The CM acknowledged that this is a smoking room and offered to call down for reassignment. We waited outside the room with our luggage. After about 15 minutes (meanwhile children were getting restless, so send them and DH down to check out the rest of the building), he came out and said there’s another room available. Down the hall we go to the new room, door opened, no odor, I’m happy. CM going down to get us new keys, I called DH on cell phone to tell him they can come back and I start to unpack. Where’s the closet? No closet? Where do I hang clothes? Clothing storage space is consists of 6 inch wide hanging space on both side of entertainment unit (already occupied by ironing board, iron and a pack & play) and 4 drawers of about 3” deep and 5” wide, couldn’t even fit DH folded t-shirt without crushing sides. Bathroom has sliding door, cannot hang over the shoe organizer, vanity space is 2” ledge where a cup would not fit. CM returns with keys and acknowledged this is an accessible room. BY now it’s 8:10 and we have PS at Cape May at 8:30, so I tell myself, it’s OK, we’ll live out of the suitcases. I moved the plastic table from patio to bathroom and will use that as vanity. We’ll make do!

Had a wonderful dinner at Cape May, return to room, take a shower, relax and unpack. Shower is handheld with NO water pressure, water drips out. That I cannot live with. Next morning, DD9 is having a fit because she has to wash her long hair in the sink because the shower couldn’t get the shampoo out. Went down to desk to request room change, no room available, have to put up with room for another day.

Next morning, pack up and stored luggage. Went to park, return and have new room #169. Great room, clean with normal storage space. Water pressure is not great but at least we can get clean. Stayed in this room for 4 nights and very happy. WE love BCV location and SAB.

Left for Disney Wonder, had a wonderful time. Disembarked on Sunday and checked into VWL for one night. Another studio with non-smoking request. Well our name must be on the Black list, as this time, we got a smoking accessible room. The odor was not so bad this time, so I decide to stick with it for one might. The kids played at the pool, we had a great afternoon, went to room to shower, water control is broken, cannot get right temperature without a lot of fiddling. Finally got water temp to stay consistent, pressure is low again (I think it’s due to the handheld unit). The four of us took shower one after another without turning off the water because we don’t know if we can get the water right again. This shower did not have a tub, so by end the whole bathroom floor was wet and yucky. Went to Artist point and had an excellent dinner. DH and kids went to arcade and I went back to room to repack luggage for trip home. Our smoking neighbor must have return because smoke begins to billow into our room through the connecting door. We were so tired that we just keep the fan on and live with it for one night.

All in all, we had a great vacation, I’ve learned my lesson about non-smoking room and accessible room request. A while back, someone post that she will not stay in an accessible room and I thought she was being unreasonable. But now I understand why. The accessible room has no storage space. The kitchenette has no shelve space, the cutlery tray is stack on top of the toaster, and the paper goods are stack on top the cutlery tray, it gave a very messy feeling.

I have only stayed in one "accessible" room. It was at HH for one night on return from the cruise. I did not notice the kind of room it was until we had already moved everything in, it was late and we, too, decided to make do. I could not understand why we were assigned this room as it was the first week of January and there were a total of 3 cars in the parking lot. It didn't make sense. I would not have wanted the low microwave for a long stay, and I agree with you that the bathroom can become flooded.

If "accessible" were the only thing available, I would be glad to have it, but other wise, no thank you.

I appreciate that they are those for those who do need them and and do welcome having them, but not for me right now.

I can tell you that when I check-in now, I ask at the Front Desk before accepting the keys what kind of room it is.

I think you and your family were very patient with all the curves that were thrown your way, and I am glad you did not let these things ruin your vacation. Thanks for your report.

Hi,

Thanks for the trip report!!!!!

Interesting report. Gives me more things to keep in mind for the next trip. Glad you still had a great trip and were still able to enjoy the awesome BCV!

Wow Sue that really stinks! Not only did you get a HC room, but you got smoking as well! When we went to BCV in Sept, they tried to put us in a HC room, but I said no (after asking at the front desk if it was HC - I don't know, something made me ask) we had a 2 year old at the time and she needs to take baths.

I hope you get better luck on your next trip!!

So, the accessible rooms do not have baths-I requested a regular room, but I will now insist on it because my mother does not take showers-She has arthritis and likes to soak in the tub at night. So, no tubs in the HC rooms?

We really like building #42 at OKW. One of our last trips we took a HC room in building #42, as that was all that was left. Next time I would sacrafice the building rather than the room. Same experience as all, no tub, flooded bathroom floor, etc. Thank goodness they have the rooms for those that need them, however I would pass in the future.:D

Did they charge you for moving? Other's have posted that they requested a different room when they got handicapped and were charged the cleaning fee.

The accessible rooms are studios...Right? Aren't all of the studios in SSR considered accessible? Does anyone know?

I was wondering about that too, because we were told that at VWL-"Well, of course you'll have to pay the $25 fee if you move", and that was after they hadn't told us at check in that the room was HA. At the time, we stayed there rather than pay the "required" $25. But we were so unhappy that DH and I agreed later that if there's a next time, we'll pay the fee, then when we get home, argue with DVC to get it back.

But I requested the room change based on no water pressure on the handheld shower unit, it was really, really bad!! The BCV HA studio had a tub, the HA studio at VWL did not have a tub.

that really stinks im starti ng wonder what i bought for $24,000.00 up front and 40 years of maint. payments...

the place should be kept in top shape like the hotel rooms are no excuses ,......
