Myself and DH: Should we order a la carte or the Moroccan feast? We do not like lamb!

:wave2: I would also be interested in hearing about Marrakesh...It's the one dinner that my DH insists we do...I think he just wants to see the belly dancers (my 16yr DS will also like this) ;)

:cheer2: 90 days and counting....

DH and I ate at Restaurant Marrakesh in May 2004. We didn't plan this dinner in advance, but whatever we had a PS for that night we didn't feel like eating and we wanted to try something new. I am not a very adventurous eater, but I am getting better about trying new things, so I was a little concerned about eating here. I figured the worst thing that could happen was that I didn't like it and I would be eating a cheeseburger later than evening.

I was pleasantly surprised by Restaurant Marrakesh. It is a very beautiful restaurant and in my opinion, one of the best themed. We were in the 2nd row of tables around the belly dancer's area and we had a good view of her. I'm sure DH was thrilled! :teeth: She was very beautiful and had amazing abs! I think I'm going to take up belly dancing!! :rotfl: Having the band play (I think they are the same people in Mo Rockin') and her dance really set the mood and it made the restaurant feel authentic.

DH and I ordered the chicken bastille (I think it was chicken, it may have been beef) and it was very good. It's meat (beef or chicken :) ) in a pastry dough and it has almonds and powdered sugar on it--very sweet, but very good. I didn't want to share it with DH! For dinner I ordered the chicken couscous, which was very good as well. The portion was huge, 2 chicken breasts, probably 2 cups of couscous and tons of veggies--from what I can remember it was carrots, squash, and something else, maybe leeks? I didn't come close to finishing my meal, but I ate a lot of the couscous, I had never had that before and now I'm a big fan. DH got the chicken kabobs and he liked them, but he liked my chicken couscous better. I tried a bite of his kabobs, but I didn't like them, the sauce they are basted in was a tomato sauce and I hate tomatoes. I'm so glad that I didn't order that! Dessert was some type of crepe, it was good, but to me, if it doesn't have chocolate, then it's not dessert!

I would gladly eat here again, but it's not on my list of must-do's. Try it once, I don't think you'll be disappointed. By the way, I don't eat lamb either and there are lots of things to pick from other than lamb.

I would love to go, but wasn't sure if my picky eater husband would like it. I hope someone writes in on this. :Pinkbounc

We're trying it for the first time in July. Believe it or not it was the choice of ds (who is turning 5). I'm going to try one of the sample platters. If I don't like it I can always get something else later but it looks like fun.

My wife and I just got back from WDW, and we tried Marrakesh for the first time. My wife is a picky eater, but she is starting to open up and try different food.

I had the Sultan Sampler, which is grilled brochette of either beef or chicken served with a Beef Brewat Roll and Chicken Bastilla served with vegetable couscous. The grilled brochette was steak kabab. Both the beef brewat roll and chicken bastilla were meat wrapped in frilo dough with i think cinnamon and then deep fried.

My wife had the lunch special which came with an appetizer of beef brewat roll, two chicken kababs with rice, and crepes atlas for dessert. The crepes where apple crepes with cinnamon topped with ice cream and almonds.

We liked everything except for my wifes dessert. We will go back and eat at Marrakesh again. Loved the atmosphere and the belly dancer.

DH and I went to Marrakesh when DD was 3. We had a great time, although DH wasn't crazy about the food. I can't remember what our dinner was called, but it was a sampler with many things to taste and I liked them all. I have been to Morocco so I know how the food tastes and compared to the "real deal" this was pretty authentic. We also enjoyed the belly dancer, who asked DD to join her on stage and we have some precious memories from that. I recommend it for anyone who likes to try new cuisines beyond the regular meat and potatoes stuff.

I have been meaning to try Marrakesh for years, but this past May was our first visit. We'd originally planned on visiting this restaurant for dinner, but decided to try it for lunch when we found ourselves hungry for something other than CS one day at lunch. The restaurant was so refreshingly dark and cool after the bright sun and heat outside. The CM's were fantastic. Our 4 yo ds hit his head twice while climbing into our booth. I was about to take the screaming little guy out when 2 CM's discouraged this and offered to distract him. They took him across the way to make a mask at the Kidcot station. When our smiling ds returned, they brought him a bowl of ice cream (with our permission, of course). How thoughtful! I had the Sultan Sampler, and dh had the Berber Feast. We both loved everything about our meals. While each sample was not overly large, the sum total was. Our 12 yo appeared about half-way through our meal. Since he is a picky eater (and I selfishly didn't want to hang around to watch him eat something like chicken fingers off the menu), I shared my meal with him. What a mistake!! He ate nearly everything -- and loved it all! Musicians had been playing quietly up until this time. Then, it was time for the belly dancer. She was great! Surprisingly, it was our 2.5 yo dd who really enjoyed the performance. Dd swayed to the music, clapped her hands, and just grinned and grinned. Surprisingly, the restaurant was nearly empty. Yet everyone around us was visibly enjoying their food. Why don't more guests visit this restaurant??? We'll definitely be returning in the future.

There are other sampler type meals that don't have lamb on them. A previous poster mentioned the Sultans feast which is very good. I like the beef brewarts (yum!!!) amd beef kebabs most, but the lemon chicken is also very good. Their couscous is awesome too.

I'm getting hungry just thinking about Marakesh - can't wait till September!

My husband and I have eaten at Marrakesh many times. We don't eat lamb, either, but we always find plenty else to order. We like the mint tea and the sampler menus. Ask about specials if they aren't posted. The place is quiet and cool.

My wife and I ate there this past April, and it was quite good.

She had a lamb dish that was outstanding. I had the sampler platter which I liked except for the chicken kebabs which where a bit chewy for my taste. I really liked the cous cous.

There are enough choices that whatever you pick, you shouldn't go wrong. For places I've never been to before, I like to get a little bit of everything just for the variety and see what it is like.

And, the entertainment (music and a belly dancer) is a definite plus!

All the suggestions sound wonderful! We have an AR for August, and I'm eager to try this restaurant!

We don't eat lamb either, but we love Restaurant Marakesh. The decor, ambiance, entertainment, service, everything is perfect. My daughter and I practiced saying the greeting, over and over again, but didn't have enough nerve to say it to anyone in Morocco. However, as they were escorting us to our table, a manager passed by us and said hello. I in return said "hello, salam ma LAY koom" (I think that's how it went). Anyway, they bent over backwards for us. It was one of the best times we ever had in Epcot. The food was so perfect I bought the cookbook. Needless to say, I repeated the phrase to everyone we met in Morocco.

One of our favorites over the years! The restaurant itself is so beautiful, the servers are friendly, and the food is delish. DH always gets the kabob, and I get the Mediterranean Seafood Platter. Highly recommend both! :)
