I'm feeling very overwhelmed at the moment. We are Disney veterans but have decided to include US and IOA into our trip next year. We would probably want to spend 3 days in the parks. Now, the Universal hotels seem quite pricey...are there discounts out there (we need three rooms)? Second, if we do not stay at one of those hotels what kind of tickets/express tickets are available? Any hotel recommendations, any website recommendations? Could someone please tell me where to start. I should mention we hope to be there the end of July '07. Any usual deals going on during that time??

You can get AAA and annual pass deals. An annual pass is $180. If you don't stay onsite, express passes are very expensive since it is high season. They often have stay and play packages as well which include your park tickets but they really aren't very expensive. Right now there is a 7 days for $85 deal going on.

I suggest that you go to the resorts board and check the threads out there for ideas on what other people are paying for that time. Remember that these hotels are not value or moderate hotels and are more expensive than the cheapies at Disney.

Despite the prices (which aren't that bad considering) staying on site is by far the best way to go. There are just so many extras that come along with staying on site there from the fast pass/room keys to the views of the park from the hotel. I would recommend the Royal Pacific.
