Helloo fellow Dis Friends,
I am Kathi (41) and I am surprising my hubby this weekend with a 3 night Wonder cruise. We took the whole family on our first cruise on the Magic in Nov 06 and it was total love at first sight for all of us but my oldest son who says his feet belong on the ground!
So when my husband was diagnosed with terminal heart failure
and had a defibrillator (ICD) put in this past fall I decided no matter what I was gonna give him one GREAT Christmas present as it could be the last we have as a family.
I will add a pic of our fam from our last DC in the next posting as I just figured it out but I will introduce you now.... my DH is Tony (46), DSJ is James (16) at that time, DSM (12) at that time, and DD is Brandi (8) at that time.
We really seemed to learn to enjoy each other for who we were as people... we made too many plans and stayed too busy but had soo much fun and the characters were everywhere and picture and autograph ready all the time!
We loved the fireworks, the TV that shows the front of the ship and the current sea conditions, the fold down cot from the ceiling (we had 2 adjoining hidden porthole rooms for that cruise), and the drink station that had the never ending coffee! DD didn't leave the Mickey pool and slide. DH and I hung out by Cove Cafe quite a bit to be close to the kids but muffle the TV/music playing.
All in all we called it the BEST vacation EVER! Then in March of 2007 my best friend, and an avid cruiser of other CL but not DCL as she likes to gamble when she cruises, invited us to join her and her hubby and 2 other couples for an adults 3 night cruise weekend on RCCL. Well, I am sure you all realize the folly of this idea... but we had to go through it to know it.
Once you have experienced anything Disney-style it is hard to do it better and unfortunately... as we had been voted "Magical Family" during our Nov 06 DCL cruise... we did not find this one quite as fun... in fact it was loud, uncomfortable, too small rooms (I had to crawl over my DH to get out of bed to go to the bathroom!!!!) and poor room service too! The positive was a great dining experience at night that is more lax dress code wise than Disney and we loved the people we cruised with and even snuck in some alone time too! However, on our way home from this cruise.... we could only hope to afford another DC soon. So that was May.
September my DH had the heart trouble finally confirmed and the suggested treatment "installed". Now I want every bit of fun and life we can enjoy together. We have been married 14 1/2 years and he is my best friend, best lover, and he loves DISNEY too!
Perfect!!!!
So I called our TA... I have changed TA's since... and looked for a trip and found the best price on Expedia given that I still had to order our Passports in case they started requiring them! Okay, now I had to tell DH that I was planning a special surprise for a Christmas present. I had asked him what he wanted and he said... "to spend time with you, to relax, and I wanna smoke a cigar... I haven't done that since our last cruise". So off to look for a hotel that would provide these things in 5 star style... nope... everything is NO SMOKING!... so how can we go somewhere that is warm/or allows indoor smoking!
My best friend (the cruiser I mentioned above) and I hatched the plan and all is going well. He does know now that we are going on a cruise that leaves from Florida... he doesn't know how long, which cruise line, nothing else. I have made arrangements for all the kids and pets... and so Thursday morning we are leaving to hopefully not have any setbacks and get onto the ship the same day (I know it isn't recommended but with a flight this early and our shuttle picks us up at 11:30 am or so.... we will be on the Wonder by 12:30 we hope!
Okay, now I need feedback. Any ideas from you great Disney fans to make the fact that of all the ships at Port Canaveral Thursday morning (will there be other ships????) that we couldn't possibly afford another DC right now!
There are more surprises awaiting him as well... but I will share those when I get home and can post a pic of our family... but I look forward to any help with posting here.
I feel like the Disneyworld commercial that plays here where the kids and parents are so excited to leave the next morning on their Disney Vacation that none of them can sleep... how will I ever sleep!
More later!
