Hi
This is the first time I will be trying to rent points from a dvc member. My DH is cautious about doing this on the internet with strangers. I'm hoping to put him (and me) at ease.
1. Is the $10/point a flat rate... or are there fees and taxes added to the total? Does 136 point convert to $1,360 and that is the final price?
2.How is payment made? Do I send the owner say, 50% when I get the contract and pay the other 50% on a set date?
3. Am I correct in thinking that I can call dvc to confirm ressies before payment is made to make sure they are, in fact, made? Or must a deposit be made before I get anything in the mail?
4. How do most dvc members preferred to be paid?
Any other inormation you may have that would be helpful I would greatly appreciate.
We are hoping to rent a 2 bedroom villa at the beach club. Arrival: Aug. 17, 2003 - Departure Aug. 21, 2003. If i calculated correctly, it should be 34 points per night at a total of 136 points. It is for myself, my husband our 3yr old daughter (her first trip) and my parents.
I would prefer the beach club. We stayed there for our honeymoom 10 years ago and I think my daughter would love the pool.....my husband sure did.
Sorry this got so long. Thanks for taking the time to read it.

The answer to many of your questions is that everything is negotiable between member and renter. There is no tax on a DVC rental.

Each member will have a preferred method for payment- if you are uncomfortable with any of the policies, let them know or find another member who will work with you.

Reservations can be confirmed with the resort- again, the payment policy will dictate when you will receive the written confirmation. Some issues will be determined by the time until the reservation begins and all will be governed by the policies of DVC which control all actions of the members.

Questions about the resorts or other DVC policies can be asked on the DVC Board itself.

You can see some suggestions in the Rent/Trade FAQ- a link is at the top of the page.

Good Luck!

Pam-I just had my first rental experience so I understand your concerns. I rented from someone on the boards here and this is how we worked it:
She made the ressie in my name.
She mailed me the original ressie when she received it.
I sent her a bank check for the total amount(only 36 points at $10/pt)when I received the reservation form.
I was able to call Member Services to check on the status of my ressie, which I did several times for my piece of mind.

I was somewhat nervous about it, but when she sent me an email just before I left to give me her new email address and wished me luck on my trip, I was relieved. Checking in was as easy as any other Disney resort-we even got updated to a 1 bedroom villa at BWV's. I don't think that had ever happened to the member I rented from!

I had a great experience with renting points and even have my sister now renting from the same DVC member I did. I'm already looking to rent again for possible trip Nov/Dec as I'm so spoiled I can't see how I could ever go back to the All Stars!

Thanks for the replies. Snnozan, I appreciate your post. It was good to hear someone else's success story who was just as nervous as I am. Your post helped put me at ease a little. Thanks again.
