Whether a Fish Extender exchange is "worth it" only you can answer. Depends on a lot of things - how many rooms participating? Is there a rule as to "how many gifts"? Do you have the time/money to get/make the gifts? How easily can you transport them to ship? And the gift you get, how about those? How long is the cruise, do you want to take time out of a short cruise to go from deck to deck distributing gifts?

You can order a cake (extra cost). For a birthday onboard the servers will serve the birthday boy a chocolate mousse-type cake and sing Happy Birthday at no extra cost (be sure they are aware of the birthday). You can also pick up an "It's my Birthday" button at Guest Services that morning to make the day special.

Thank you much for the update

We always take a basic city tour the first time we visit any port. Gives us the lay of the land and a little information about the port. Subsequent visits, we might do a different excursion, or something on our own, depending on how comfortable we feel.

BTW, there's a very small Cruise Meet thread started for your cruise. That's a nice place to "meet" others on your cruise: https://www.disboards.com/threads/5...-magic-very-merrytime-4-night-cruise.3682510/

Fish extenders are one subculture on a DCL cruise, decorating your door is another. Loads of ideas on YouTube and Disboards for both. Then there is Pirate's Night (or Frozen) and if you want to take a costume(s). Don't overthink your first cruise, let the magic come to you. PrincessShmoo has great advice above. Much of what you do is your choice. The folks on these forums can only express their own experiences...likes/dislikes. Maybe you should take the first cruise (as we did) cold turkey...no decorations, costumes, etc....to see what appeals to your family. Then you can jump into your next sea mouse adventure with a feeling of confidence that you will be adding to the fun by doing it/them. If they become a chore, too expensive, too complex, etc., don't do them. Many cruisers just enjoy the ride without feeling they are missing out on anything. Cruise on...
