1st solo trip; getting nervous

I felt the same way as you do when my first "solo" trip was quickly approaching. That was 4 solo trips ago!! LOL...I love it and go alone each October for the Food and Wine Festival. :thumbsup2

I spread my time over the various parks, have meals in restaurants I'd normally skip with DH. And that's another point; solo dining isn't bad. I personally find that the servers are especially nice to solo diners and check on them often. I even go to MNSSHP alone and have a blast.

I think you'll enjoy yourself. Just think;you can do what you want, when you want and not have to worry about anyone but YOU!!! Enjoy yourself!

1st solo trip ever, anywhere; getting nervous

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted this on the Solo board, but thought maybe my fellow DVC'rs might have good advice.

My plane ticket is bought and I am committed, but honestly I am really nervous about traveling alone. Not about my days in the parks, which will be awesome as I get to go and do whatever I want (the selfish me who planned this trip is really psyched).

But I am worrying about the flights and the nights. I haven't flown alone in 30 years and haven't spent a night apart from my husband except for visits to family out of state. I am a grown women of middle age so why am I freaking out?

Any suggestions would be helpful. I can still cancel the trip with the only loss being my airfare.

In the words of Nike, just do it! On my first solo trip (a gift from my loving family), I requested a non-first floor room, and have requested one ever since. The only time I was nervous was at the airport, when I had to change not just planes, but terminals as well. Since my first solo trip, I've taken 10 or 11 solos, and love it. BTW, DVC studios are perfect little "homes".

You'll be fine!! I too was a bit nervous about a solo trip but I quickly got over it. I had a fantastic time. Doing what you want when you want is wonderful.

For me I didn't have to worry about a grouchy husband, and 2 kids who whined and it made my time so peaceful and enjoyable.

You'll really enjoy yourself!

While my trip was not a true solo one as Dh did come along but a virus had him in bed for 2 full days, I can tell you that the time I did have to my self was nice. I did EPCOT at my pace which was very nice. I stopped in every country and looked in every shop. I ate at Jiko they had a nice counter where you ate at and were able to watch the cooks prepare food. I had a very nice conversation with one of them and he even took time to tell me what he was preparing. I thought I would be very uncomfortable eating alone but Disney made it real easy. Have a great trip!

Just go and enjoy - you'll be so glad you did! I've taken two solos, one short 3-day and one 7-day and enjoyed them both. No waiting my turn for the shower in the morning, no messes in the room unless they were my own, and deciding what to do and when to do it without waiting for someone else to agree with me was wonderful! I would do a solo every year if I could afford to (and my husband would let me!). Like my daughter always says, "Mom, you need some time to yourself - take it!" I'm sure your daughter would agree. Enjoy and let us know how it goes!:goodvibes

I travel solo to WDW 3/4 times a year. I enjoy it. I usually meet interesting folks to talk to on the flight to and from WDW and enjoy meeting folks from all over the world at WDW. I feel comfortable and secure at WDW. Hope you enjoy yourself!:yay:

I hope you enjoy your solo trip!

PS. I like to post on the Exchange board and Meriweather is planning a "meet" for December 2011, way ahead of time. That's another option, travel solo, but have a few "meets" when down there. Come join the Exchange board and help us plan some fun! DH and I have already met Meriweather and her DH, but this time we'll be going on our own.

Exchange board? Where is that? I must admit that I pretty much stick to the DVC boards and solo boards so I don't even know many others.

I'm currently signed up for the "gardening" exchange. I've done Halloween candy, Christmas ornaments...lots of different things over the years. Once there was a "newspaper" exchange and I got a few local ones from England. There are limits to what you spend....sometimes the exchange isn't something particularly useful to you, but Goodwill takes donations. I've enjoyed "meeting" and exchanging with lots of disboard people over the years.

One beautiful thing that I received was a clear glass mug etched with "100 years of Magic" on it. I love to use it. Meeting Meriweather and her DH has been a bonus and I look forward to meeting the other exchangers next year.
