1ST resv banking question

Help please. Within the next 2 days I should be making my first DVC resv. I am proud owner of 170 OKW AUG UY. I want to stay 8 nites in May 2013. I have the pts from 2012. Do I need to bank those first then make resv using borrowed 2013 pts first then banked 2012 pts. I ask because "what if I need to cancel" I'm basing all this on what I think I've learned from the boards.Obviously I need your help.Thanks

You are in your 2012 use year and so is your trip. You do not need to borrow or bank based on what you wrote.

Your 2012 use year covers trip from August 2012 through July 2013.

Your August, 2012 Use Year includes dates from 8/1/12 - 7/31/13. You do not need to bank any August 2012 points for a reservation during that time. If needed, you can borrow points from your August, 2013 Use Year for a trip in May, 2013.

If that reservation is cancelled, the borrowed points would remain in the 2012 Use Year and would need to be used by July 31, 2013 or they will expire. The 2012 Use Year points would be returned to your account and could be banked thru April 30, 2013. If canceled later than that date, they would also need to be used before 7/31/13.

Correct, you can only bank during the first 8 months of your UY, that's why a correct UY can be important.

You are correct. The date for an August Use Year would be March 31. Sorry for the typo.
