1st reservation made-totally disappointed

Bill--:rotfl: You are so right, yes, I am always looking at contracts. We "may" buy one next year, or may wait until 2013 to add on. I really want to wait until my DH finishes his Master's and goes back to work, but, it is only money, right? We shall see what happens. I can't buy until I have the money saved anyway! :goodvibes

We are not ever able to book seven months out - not six or five either...four is the best we can do, and it seems that those plans have even been disrupted. :lmao:

That said, we aren't too picky about where we stay, but I do prefer some to others and I do want a studio to save precious points. I suggest you call member services somewhat regularly and check on availablity. Don't rely on the waitlist. You can only have two active waitlists at a time.

I think if you are willing to do a split stay, you will be able to move into studios.

Good Luck!

Split wait lists are much more likely to come through. I would recommend changing the first (or last) 4 nights to an SSR studio waitlist, which will probably come through, and the last 4 nights to a studio or 1 BR wherever else you want to stay.
The availability will change every day. Don't just assume that you are "stuck" with what you have currently reserved. Be diligent, call and check, you will find some alternative options.

Youll like the 1 bedroom :) Future trips though (assuming you go the same time every year or know way in advance!) youll be able to book at the 11 month mark at your home resort... Usually this will get you into a studio at your home.

At the 7 month mark you can try to book at other resorts.

In case no one has said this: call the moment Member Services opens on that 11 month or 7 month date...dont screw around because in an hour or two any rooms you might want can be long gone!

Now the reality of the DVC starts to set in. As time goes on you will learn the ins and outs as a owner, not as someone reading posts on the internet. In the near future, you will transition from commando mode where you hit the parks all day to a family staying at a beautiful resort at WDW. You will be spending more time in your room so a 1 bedroom will be something that you will appreciate. When this happens, you will be looking for a add on contract and after stays at several different resorts, you will find out which resort is your favorite and you will most likely buy there.

What a great summary and so true! We're much more relaxed and calm on our trips now. We don't even do park hoppers anymore, we just plan accordingly and everything works out. Of course however, I'm planning an add-on for my anniversary present now!

Funny you mention above-bolded text. My family of 4 just had to purchase another set of our 10 day non expiring passes. We use a few days each trip and always purchase the hopper.

This new purchase, with my kids being older and our touring differently (going often, TGM, etc.) we decided we no longer needed hoppers and didn't get them. We were trying to remember the last time we used the hopper and honestly couldn't remember.

I called back yesterday morning. I actually now have a split stay. I have SSR 1 bdrm for the first 4 days, and a studio at AKL the last 4 days. It isn't a Savannah view, but, it is a studio. I'm going to call back towards the end of the week and check availability again. I changed the WL's to a studio at SSR for the entire stay, and then the first 4 days of the AKL. It saved us a ton of points just getting the studio for half of the stay. Just hoping something comes through!

The first time we "had" to stay in a 1-bd, I fretted over the extra points. Now we are converts and much prefer the 1-bds over studios. You will want to have the experience of staying in a 1-bd at some point; look at is as a perk you would never spend the cash for....

You will have a great time wherever you end up!

That's good news that you called back and were able to get a studio for half of your stay! What a savings in points :cool1:.

Our first stay as members was a split stay with wait lists going here and there. It made me nervous at the time, but looking back, it all worked out and we got to stay at VWL and BCV. Now we plan 11 months out and don't even think about it anymore :)!

Congratulations on getting in the system earlier than you expected! It's fun making your own reservations!
