I went out on my first "photo excursion" of the year. No other purpose, just going out to take photos. Need to do this more often.
Every year here in Washington state we get a bunch of eagles from Canada and Alaska who come down to feed on the spawning salmon. If you go at the right time of year when the conditions are right you can see over 100 bald eagles in one day.
This was my first time and I found out that I was a little late in the season and that this is one of the worst years we have had in a long time due to river flooding effecting the salmon run.
It was cold and wet and my equipment is not designed for birding but I had a great time. I saw over 20 bald eagles out in their natural habitat and got to practice a hobby I really love.
I was discussing my plans with a photo buddy and we decided that despite the cold, wet weather and our limited gear that a bad day of photography is better than the best day cleaning the garage.
I didn't get any shots that you will find on a post card, but I had low expectations before I left so I was pleasantly surprised with the results.
These were taken with a Rebel XT and a Canon 700-200mm f/2.8 L IS with a 1.4x extender. These aren't 100% crops but they are cropped quite a bit.
