I'm so nervous about our upcoming trip. It will be me, DH, DS almost 3, DD 18 months. Our son has PDD-NOS. What I'm really worried about is how he will do waiting around all the people. He freaks out when people talk to him and takes it out on us; he'll scratch, bite, pull hair, cries. I've read that there are some rides that have a quiet place to wait. Where can I find out which rides those are?

Thanks for the tips! I'm hoping our son will do ok at WDW. He was nonverbal until we started watching the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse a couple months ago. Now he loves to talk about Mickey, Donald, and all the other things he learns by watching that show!

If he likes to cacoon using a stroller helps for lots of kids if you get it tagged as a wheel chair so he can stay in a lot longer while in line.

Enjoy the Magic

My son is almost 3 with PDD NOS. We go several times a year to WDW.

We always get a GAC and we also get it for the stroller as a wheelchair. This provides him with his own space to chill.

We also utilize fast pass on rides that it is available on.

Disney honestly makes it so easy to travel and have family fun for those with disabilities.

My grandson has PDD-NOS and the first time we went he was 3 1/2. He was fine with people talking to them as long as he had a distraction in his hand for diversion. At that time, we had several small electronic games that weren't expensive and we just frequently exchanged him when his anxiety level got worse. Also, if you go to any character meals--and you feel it is necessary--tell the wait staff he is on the spectrum and let him decide what he wants to do with the characters. He may surprise you as GS did and stand next to them for pictures. No hugs were allowed, though.

My 4 year old pddnos is also crazy for Mickey. Each time we go to WDW, he makes great strides. So much so that we bought into DVC.

Get the GAC, have an easy schedule, and give him some opportunities to raise to the challenge. I bet he will!
