My girls are off to their first day of school...both girls in middle school this year, but they are in 2 different schools (5th/6th in one school, 7th/8th in another) I am anxious about DD10 starting her first year in this school...she has some anxiety and doesn't know anyone in her class(yet). She was supposed to meet a friend in front of the school this morning so they could walk in together but the girl ditched her:sad2:. We got there on time and her friend wasn't there. I called the mom to see if they were stuck in traffic or had to park somewhere else and she said she told her DD to just go in without DD! DD was so nervous but insisted I not walk her up to the door (which I didn't really want to do anyway!)

Anyway, I'm so happy to be back to a routine, but sad that summer has ended already! It went by so fast this year!

oh don't think of it as the girl ditching her. Were you running late? Maybe she was didn't want her hanging around outside.

Hope they both have a great day!

nope not running late, pulled up right at 8:05 as planned. trying not to hold it against my friend, definitely not against the girl; her mother told me she told her to go in.

Well that sucks. I'm sorry.

I think they all just get so nervous that they're kind of not thinking straight. Any opportunity that comes along, they may jump at so that even the best laid plans can go awry. I saw it last year my DD started at a new school. Emotions were running high all around. We had plans to meet people but when we got there they'd already gone in also. But DD found others she knew, thankfully. This year she was less anxious but there were still some nervous tears the night before the first day.

they're home from the first day and all is well with both DD's! DD10 did know some kids in he class from soccer and her last school so she is feeling much better now.
I think you're right Pea...everyone is on edge or nervous and plans don't always go as planned. This friend is a big time flake but she did call to apologize...I should have known better than to rely on her!

One of my coworkers just stopped by my desk and told me "all the schools are being released now!" I couldn't imagine why until she said "It's the heat!" That is definitely a new one up here in Maine! lol I called my daughter's school, and was told they are "definitely NOT closing". I was glad; it's only their second day back!
