1st birthday - what gifts were the biggest hits?

A big cushioned ball. Ours is an inflatable ball inside a light cushion.

A "magic" key for little tikes car. We gave DS a set of plastic keys. The orange one was the magic one where the parents pushed.

Boxes, wrapping paper that makes noise as they tear, Dd4 still enjoys these.

the biggest hit at our house was the Little Tikes shopping cart. strange - but they loaded that thing up with all sorts of stuff. boys liked it, girls liked it, when I hosted playgroup it was the #1 toy for ages 1 and 2. it inspired all kinds of imaginative play. the girls played with it regularly through preschool.

Exactly what I was going to say. Mine played 5 min with the toy, and spent the rest of the day playing with the box
