OK, I need some advice.

DW and I are taking a solo trip (no kiddies) in May. Right now we have a Studio at OKW for 3 nights (30 pts). We've stayed at OKW before, and thus waitlisted for a studio at any of the other properties. I'm pretty optimistic that something will come thru over the next couple of months. And if not, we'll be perfectly content at OKW.

Now comes the hard part. The CM making our reservation just happened to mention that they had 1B Boardwalk View room available. Wouldn't that make for a memorable first time "Home"???

We really have no NEED for a 1B, and it will cost me almost 3x as many points (84). Getting the larger room now means I'll probably have to cut a day or two from a trip next spring--or borrow from '06.

It would be nice to have the larger bed, larger bathroom, separate living room. We probably won't do much cooking in the room either way--just breakfast and snacks. The 1B would clearly be a luxury for just two adults.

What would you do!?!?!

Absolutely, go for the 1bdrm boardwalk view. Even if you don't deserve the treat, your DW does! (lol)

Since you are alone with no kids, you might take the opportunity to appreciate the whirpool more.

For my first trip, I decided to "splurge." I know it will mean a shorter trip later, but am okay with it. I really want the first trip to be incredible--not that it wouldn't be no matter what. My only fear is that it will be difficult to stay in a studio in the future!

Okay... since you are a new owner (Congratulations and Welcome Home by the way), I'll cut you some slack. It's time you learned the rules about DVC:

DVC isn't really about NEED (unless I'm convincing DH that we NEED to buy more points). It's about what makes you feel good. If you think you would like to splurge on the 1B, then go for it! Cut a weekend day from your next trip or two, and make it up. It's not every day that you get to pamper yourself and live it up without the kiddos. Enjoy your alone time. The tub alone could make it worth the points. ;)

My only warning - after trying a 1BR, you may never be satisfied with a studio again!

Our 1st trip "home" which will be Oct will be in a 1bedroom! Just upgraded from a studio to 1B yesterday.

If it's a matter of taking the one bedroom and having to shorten your next trip, definately take the studio. You're in Disney World, you're not suppose to spend a lot of time in your room.

That is what a one bedroom is for, 2 adults no more. Just because the people on this board like to stuff familes into them does not make it right. The living room is not a bedroom and should only be used for emergencies. If there are more than two people they should go to the 2 bedroom or GV. I have been a member since 95, had many guests over the years and never used the living room for a bedroom. Too many people are buying into DVC that really can not afford it, that is for sure. I here such things as 4 adults in a studio, people asking how many people can stay in a one bedroom, all these statements lead one to believe that they have over -extended themselves when buying into DVC.

I have to disagree. I am just ultimately cheap and don't like spending where I don't have to. A hotel from 2 adults and 2 children is fine, why wouldn't a 1 bedroom be.

I have also decided to be "frugile" on my points thus allowing me to sneak in 2 or 3 extra trips in a year or two since I opted for smaller accomodations.

I think it is really a personal choice based on your vacation time schedule. If you want more trips in smaller accomodations than go for it. If you want less trips in larger accomodations, than go for that.

I think the 1B BW view sounds terrific. I can understand your reservations about the extra points, but I think having the whirlpool tub alone makes up for that ---especially since it's just your dw and you. Have u considered a 1B at OKW to save some points ? Obviously you won't have a BW view, but you'll get everything else and less points. Just a thought ?

I'm assuming you're just referring to adults in the living room Pa ? I agree with you there, but kids work just fine on the sofabed.
Have a nice trip whatever you decide Tjkraz :D

I agree completely. The sofa bed is for emergencies. Its been used once for one weekend in all our stays. Its just not vacation with kids sleeping on the pullout, they sould have there own room.

Adults only with no kids - I would go for the BWV 1BR hands down - the location, ease of access to adult oriented areas such as Jellyrolls, Atlantic Dance Hall. Walk over to Epcot World Showcase

Hands down go for the 1BR

The clincher for me would be especially if you do not expect to be able to travel as just the adults again anytime soon

thanks

WOW!
Apparantly the occupancy limits for the states of Florida and South Carolina should be changed...

Apparantly anyone in the 250pt club and below doesn't deserve to be DVC members because they can't "afford" it. Perhaps they're just cheap?

I'm sorry to all of you that have a problem with my buying 150 points...and you all having to deal with us "trash".

I thought that we were among the "elite" when I purchased because my kids would be vacationing at WDW every year...and to think that our family is just trash...let me tell my 4 year old that we can't go to Disney because we don't have enough points for her and her 16month old sister to each have thier own bedroom...PULEEEZ:earseek:

Off my soapboax and to the OP:
I say go for the 1B, you're going to be at WDW often enough that shaving a day off this year aint gonna matter.

Heather :duck: start flamin away...

They never should have dropped the minimum below 230. Its the 150 point packages that force people to over-occupy their rooms, avoid weekends like the plague and use the pullouts. I think they did all members a diservice when they did that.

Go for the 1 bedroom! :) We always do because we enjoy the additional features and we travel mostly just the two of us (kids are in college).

Go for the 1 bedroom! You may not have the chance for a Boardwalk view again for a long time - and that is especially true if you are not a BWV owner.

When is the last time that you and your DH treated yourselves to somthing special? If you are like most parents, I bet it's been a while. No need to feel guilty! My advice is to just do it and not second guess the decision after you make it. Call back asap - the BW view may already be gone !

Best wishes -

I'd say to go for the 1 BR. But it really depends on the focus of your vacation. Is it WDW or vacation relaxation? If the first, a studio is fine; the second, go for the 1 BR! DH has a very high pressure job, and loves to unwind and relax at WDW. We're among those "once you try a 1 BR, you'll never go back" people. So although we much prefer the 1 BR, it's your choice, probably based on why you vacation at WDW.

I agree with most of the opther posters; the 1BR is a lovely romantic getaway for you harried parents (buit be careful if you were not planning on more offspring right away ;)).

If you are looking to save points, you might want to see about getting any weekend nights for cash, since rack rate after tax is cheaper than weekend points*$10 a pt for 1BR Pfd View (e.g. ~$565 vs 60 pts in magic season; according to my calculations). If you want to conserve cash too, you could do some arbitrage, paying cash for the weekends and renting out some of the points you would have paid for the 1BR on the rent/trade, providing you with some cash to offset the out-of-pocket $$$.

Just a thought. Enjoy!

tjkraz, I went through the same thing when booking our first trip. Except that we don't have any kids that would ever be going with us. But we opted for a studio, just because we don't need to have all that space. And I will NEVER be cooking in WDW so the kitchen would be usless.

Go with your gut! And love every minute of the trip!! Have fun.

Studios and 1 BR sleep four. No stuffing involved.

I would hold out for a studio at any other resort besides OKW...
since it will have both a bed and a couch... quite nice.

With that said... DH and I opted for a one bedroom at BWV for our alone trip and it was devine.... next time though... a studio at BWV will be fine.
