$1B Disneyland Resort Expansion - OC REGISTER

It might also include a luxury hotel - apparently Disney were helping push for the hotel tax break for any 4 diamond hotels being built in Anaheim.

I hope it gets approved, I don't want to pay taxes on park tickets for our August Trip

According to the article, the current tax exemption is through sometime in June 2016, so you should be fine for your August 2015 trip

Oh, I always wondered why when I bought my APs there was no tax. I know in FL, the tickets are taxes. Didn't know all tickets are given a break for DL. That's pretty nice.

And getting back to the story, I guess this means Star Wars Land has a green light.

I would still like to know where the expansion will be. I know there's a good chance the Puumba parking lot could get converted into the parking structure as we've discussed making a walkway through the hotel they just bought, but there just isn't that much land.

The article states that neither DL or DCA have used up all of their allotted land for theme parks...not sure where exactly it is, but apparently it's there already

If you look at Disneyland in Google Earth you can see the backstage area behind Toontown, where the horse farm is, the undeveloped sections of DCA, the open parking lot on Disney Way & Clementine, the parking lot at the PPH, the parking lot between the DLH and Mickey & Friends and all the land where Toy Story and Cast Member parking is.

I was still surprised to see how much land DLR has left to use. For the most part, it seems like everything is already crowded, and on busy days, parking is hard to come by. Plus, it is pretty much landlocked without Disney buying other hotels and properties. But I'm all for expansion! I enjoy not paying taxes on tickets!

I love the idea of expansion but how much are we the annual pass holder going to pay n pay n pay

Expand Disney land!

Also please do more with paradice pier hotel in the 7 in 7 I was so disappointed with it

They're not going to expand the park into the backstage areas behind Toontown, the location of the farm, etc. Those are needed. That's where they store the parade floats, have rehearsal facilities, launch fireworks, etc.

You also forgot to mention the Simba parking lot.

Exactly. We'll get hit with the increase anyhow. An expansion this expensive doesn't happen for free. The last time Disney invested this much into the parks was during the DCA refurb/Carsland installation and as a result, we saw ticket and AP prices soar. Looking back to 2010, I payed $199 for a 4-day park hopper pass. Now the price is up 34% to $300.

At least our money is put to good use. :D

Anyone know how much the current parking structure cost? I hope a boring parking garage doesn't eat up half the expansion funds... And if they built a fancier hotel than the GCH, they'd charge so much that no one I know could afford to stay there! But I would love an additional Star Wars attraction, or something with the superheroes even a dedicated meet and greet space. Does anyone have any speculation about what is going on in Innoventions?

It will be interesting to see what Disney will be doing with this expansion. More fun to be had at the Happiest Place on Earth......If we can still afford it!! YIKES!! :bitelip:

There is definitely a lot of backstage area. The Disney races run through a lot of that area and there really is a lot of land back there. Obviously that stuff needs to be stored somewhere, but could a lot of it be moved to a different site nearby that they already own? A space that is too far off site to work as a "part of the park" area, but would work to store things not used every day?

That last line is important. Ticket prices could go way up and all you get is Magic Bands and FP+. WDW spent a Billion for that and the visitors got nothing but more planning headaches. At least we'll be able to say that we're getting something good from it.
