I developed horrible lower back pain after knee surgery. Ended up being diagnosed as having developed a weak spot in my core muscles from a change in my gait. My physical therapist gave me two very simple exercises that worked miracles. (They are so easy thet really don't even qualify as exercises.) Lie on a flat surface like the floor flat on your stomach for 15 minutes (most beds are too soft). Then raise yourself up on your elbows and stay that way for 5-10 minutes. These exercises strengthen your core and reallign inner muscles that might be hurting because of a weakened core. It's so simple its worth a try.
I get those. I have to be careful when I exercise and then cool down, like overnight. Then if I do not stretch slowly in the morning the back muscles down low and on each side of my spine can go "twang". Making it very difficult to stand up or bend over slightly.
When that happens a muscle relaxer helps a lot. But I usually fall asleep within 1 hour of taking it.
ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory and my doc has recommended 800mg every four hours for a short while after an incident. But it is very hard on the liver so be careful and no alcohol.
a quality waistband type back support will help also.
Are you sure its your back? You mentioned you didn't lift anything and cant recall doing anything to injure yourself. Many times a back injury is one sided although the pain can radiate, you said it was across your whole back. Could it be kidney pain? They can be very similar. Does it feel like a strong stabbing pain or more of a tenderness aching pain? Just throwing another possibility out there!
Since you already took one aleve you can take another but no ibuprofen. You can take tylenol though. Did you get ANY relief when you took the pain medicine?
Please don't push yourself while you are hurting though. Make the family do it! I hope you feel better!
C.Ann,
There's not a doubt in my mind your back pain was caused by stress. Most people don't realize that their mind can cause horrible back pain. It's your brain's way of distracting you from what's really bothering you... having to pack up and leave the lake early due to Mother Nature. I know this sounds crazy, but I'd bet good money this is what is wrong with you. Read the reviews of Dr. John Sarno's book, Healing Back Pain: The Mind-Body Connection, and I think you will agree this is what is causing your back to hurt. This is an excellent book that I picked up on eBay for a couple of dollars. Once you realize that stress can cause back pain, the pain will go away by itself. Don't take my word for it, read some of these wonderful reviews and I think you will agree. http://www.amazon.com/review/produc...ts=1&colid=&sortBy=bySubmissionDateDescending
Good luck, and try not to be stressed out over packing up and having to leave the lake early.
Just checking in to see how you're feeling? If you're not feeling much better, have you considered a Bladder/Kidney/Urinary Tract Infection?
I had nagging back pain for the longest time. I was at the point where I almost went to a specialist...low and behold I went to an urgent care one night because it was not getting better, come to find out I had a pretty bad Bladder Infection.
No other symptoms other than backache...just wanted to throw that out at you.
