Hi. If someone has this release, could you please look at the back of the DVD and tell me if this is "goldish" in color?
I purchased a used one from a USA citizen, used and works ok, but am questioning if this is a copy. He stated it was not and I'm not into buying a copy of anything. I do understand that a goldish color dvd is multilayer and holds more, but not sure if this was around back then, or even needed. I have several DVD's and they are all "silver" in color.
Please let me know what you have so I know how to address this.
Thank you.

Not sure if I can help you with whether or not it is a copy, but the original issue was done in 1999 for the DVD and the picture on the DVD is printed on the DVD. If it is a copy the picture would not be on the DVD directly.

Hi. If you have the DVD, is it gold, or silver? The label/graphics are on the DVD, but now days you can make pretty nice labels.
R you maybe saying that the label/graphics are like painted or etched on the front of the DVD?

The one I have is a teal color and has Ariel on the front and in a gold bar at the top says Limited Issue (we got it in a pack set)

The actual DVD is gold and the front looks very similar to the outside cover

The DVD is a picture like the front cover. If it is a peel off label of any sort then it's a copy. That is the key to telling if it's real. I do not believe that there is a way yet to print directly on a DVD (although I have seen the new printers that will print on special CDs)

Thank you. I'll double ck on the label thing. Now that I know it is suppose to be gold, I examine the label.

I have a laserdisk of little mermaid from that date, I am pretty sure the DVD was not issued until 99 . You may have a copy from the LD .

Hi. I know that the DVD and jacket both say 1989. (i think)
The label on the DVD is not a paper label, so it would not have been installed by someone copying, unless of course they have some type of maching, like the factory, where they are putting them on like the factory.
I'm believe this is to be genuine.
Let me know what your take is on the "1989" being on the jacket and DVD.
Thx

1989 is the year The Little Mermaid was released to theaters. I do not believe DVD technology was widely available back then. I remember the frist release to video and there was no DVD option back then. I worked the the DS until March of 1998 and do not remember ever selling or pre-selling DVD's.
