..........

That sounds very frustrating!! Do you have a cell number you could give to your doctor, and then unplug your home phone?

This makes me happy I'm not in a battleground state!

------------------

I'm in a "dead zone" for cell phones.. (One of the not-so-great advantages of spending 7 to 8 months living here at the lake..)

Do what I do..say "Excuse me, would you mind holding for just a second?" and then hand the phone to the kids.:lmao: Political (and other unsolicited callers) have been treated to DS's vesion of "Itsy Bitsy Spider", "Letters In Mouth" ( a song he learned at school) and "Rocket Man".

I kept getting called to go see Sarah Palin in Scranton the other day... They called me 7 times in ONE day... they dont give up easy!! I finally broke down and just answered. They didn't call back after that.

I had a credit repair agency call last night. When I informed them we did not ask for their agency to call us, they asked if we might have anything on our credit report that might need fixing anyway. I handed the phone to DS who told the poor girl a WONDERFUL story about the "Mag-nation Mooders". I think he got as far as saying something about Mover Dave's magic hat before she hung up.:lmao:

I feel no obligation to people who call me unsolicited. I simply say, "No thanks, bye." click. I don't listen to them, I give them no chance to talk; they have interrupted ME in my own home. I don't feel that is rude in the least! It's certainly better than being afraid to answer the phone.

Calls like that make me love my caller ID even more. If I don't recognize the phone number or if it is someone I don't want to talk to I simply ignore the phone.

(And no - I am not going to - nor should I have to - pay $35 extra a month on my phone bill to have caller ID to avoid people who have no business calling me to begin with.. )

$35 a month for caller ID??? Usually it is only a few dollars extra a month or part of a package. If you don't want to pay whatever it is, that is your choice. But the technology IS out there to avoid this kind of thing if you change your mind.

I rarely get political calls. Maybe because of where I live or because I have an unlisted number. But if I did, I would simply hang up the phone without a word.

It is interesting to read how some of you are being hounded. I cannot remember the last time I got a politically related call. And the ads on TV are more relating to prop 8 than the actual election.

We had been getting calls every day from our local Democratic party. We do have Caller ID ($8/month here) so I just didn't answer when I saw "Brookhaven Demo" come up on the ID. However, DH was at home the other day when they called. He picked up the phone, said "I'm voting for Nixon!" and hung up. They haven't called back since.

I know the calls are very annoying, BUT my 17 year old DS has become very active in the POTUS race this year. He wanted to see Hillary Clinton speak at our local high school. He had to work the phones for 3 hours to get a ticket to see her. This week he wants to hear Sarah Palin speak when she comes to Indy. For one ticket to that event he had to make 100 phone calls.

I asked him how people react when he calls and he said most people are really nice to him.

He isn't old enough to vote yet, but he does have real life experience in both sides of the campaigns.

With their political polling nonsense, I swear I'm going to scream so loud they'll be able to hear me in D.C. !!!!!!!!!

I don't have caller ID here and I have to answer the phone for the next day and a half because I'm waiting for a doctors office to call with information they will not leave on an answering machine - they will simply hang up and try again later..

So who calls? People pushing their political propaganda and wanting to "poll" me.. How many times do you have to tell them you're not interested before they get the message and back off?

After the last round of this, I was simply keeping my phone off the hook - but that's not an option right now..

Someone please move the election up to tonight!!!!

Okay.. I'm done venting.. :upsidedow

$35??? OMG!

This is why I love being one of those "cell phone only millennials"!

That stinks you can't get cell phone coverage.

I love caller ID for this reason too. I went thru a few months of non-stop "your vehicle warranty is about to exprire!!!!" calls (and um...my car warranty expired years ago LOL) and they made me NUTS.

I just moved, have an unlisted number and so far, so good!

In this particular area it's part of a "package" - one that I don't choose to purchase because I'm only here 7 to 8 months out of the year.. I carry only basic service (for emergencies) and use a calling card if I need to make a call out of the area..

However, that's not the point.. It wouldn't matter if it was $5 a month.. Why should I have to pay an extra fee to prevent people from calling here that have no business invading my privacy and annoying me with "polls"?? That's how the whole concept of the "Do Not Call Registry" for telemarketers came to be.. Should people have had to take on larger telephone bills for caller ID instead so they wouldn't be annoyed by telemarketers? That's a ridiculous solution to a problem that shouldn't even be my problem.. :sad2:

We get a ton of the car warranty ones too. So annoying!

That's great that your son is so interested in politics :thumbsup2 - and I mean that sincerely - but he shouldn't have to "earn" tickets by making unsolicited phone calls.. To me it's no different than telemarketers.. :sad2: :headache:

Forgot to add: I also have a private unlisted number - so I have no idea where they're getting it from (unless it was someone who had this number 5 years ago)..

Hopefully the calls end soon. Is it just 1 party calling? Can you tell them to take you off the list?

I know I get totally irritated by telemarketers (and yes, election people would could!) too but what can you do?

C. Ann, call your doctor's office and tell them you are being overrun with political calls and you will be screening your calls until the election is over. Talk to a real person and ask them to have the person from the doctor's office call and leave a message to return the call on your answering machine. "Hi, C. Ann, it's Doctor so and so's office, please call back and ask for Nurse Ratched" is something they should be willing to do. Then don't answer the phone and wait until you have a message on your machine. Problem solved.

That's a good idea (didn't hear from the office today, so I'm hoping I will tomorrow).. I'll call them first thing in the morning.. :thumbsup2

However, it still irritates the living daylights out of me that I have to "screen" calls on the telephone that I pay for every month.. :headache:

Can't we just have the election tonight - or tomorrow???????? :headache:
