1900 PF or not?

Hi Everyone!

I will be at Disney with my nieces and nephew in March and we are on the dining plan. The kids are 15, 13 and 7. I reserved 1900PF because I thought they'd like the show and there seemed to be things on the buffet they'd eat. Unlike most kids, they aren't crazy about buffets and neither am I so we aren't doing many of them. (Though I did plan breakfast at CP and we are doing Ohana for dinner.)

I am thinking of cancelling 1900PF after reading such poor reviews of the food. Food isn't everything, but it will be dinner and if the food is subpar the kids are going to leave there hungry and I will have to feed them again OOP. I guess for me, I would rather skip the characters and get a good meal. So I am debating swapping that out for something else. We have to keep CP and Ohana because one niece is a huge Pooh fan and my nephew loves Stitch.

Our other reservations are 50's Cafe, Whispering Canyon, Le Cellier and Tappen Edo. I think we will be okay with those as they all like steak and BBQ and they love Habachi.

So, I guess my question is whether 1900PF is worth it and if not what other restaurant would be a good choice?

We thought the food at 1900 PF was good. Definitely above average for a buffet. Even my 15 y/o son enjoyed our visit there. We went for our granddaughter and I was a little worried that he would hate it since it was "one of those princess things". He's pretty picky (definitely a meat & potatoes kinda guy) and he found several things he loved. The buffet area was very neat and clean and the food is presented attractively enough to encourage people to try different things. DS hardly ever tries anything new, but he did here and liked everything he tried.

Just to let you know, Stitch is only at 'Ohana for breakfast. Dinner there is NOT a character meal.

We didn't care for the food at 1900 at all, but you should never base your decisions on what you read on the boards. All of us have different tastes and opinions. If it looks good to you, you should go. :)

Dinner at Ohana isn't character? Crap. My middle sister's ONE request was Stitch.

We really enjoyed the food at 1900 PF. The desserts were really good. I will say though. The characters were by far the BEST that we encountered on our last trip. And, we had other dinners at CP, LTT, and TK.

I think the kids in your party will really enjoy it. There was a group of teens behind us and one of the step sisters was all over one of the boys asking to marry her and be her prince charming. Very fun!

Have fun!

Here is the info on 'Ohana's from Disney's website. :)

"Ohana restaurant in Disney's Polynesian Resort offers a dinner menu with selections influenced by Polynesian cuisine and a Character Dining breakfast. Both meals are served family style, which makes sense since in the Hawaiian culture 'ohana means family.

The Ohana servers contribute to the festive atmosphere, as they dash between tikis and tropical greenery to bring plates of Polynesian specialties to your table. Choose from skewers roasted over an expansive 18-foot oak fire pit, such as:

* Asian Barbequed Pork Loin Skewers
* Oak Grilled Turkey Skewers
* Marinated Sirloin Steak Skewer
* Marinated Shrimp

Side dishes include stir-fried vegetables, fried dumplings, lo mein noodles and a salad starter. The full bar in 'Ohana offers select wines and tropical alcoholic drinks.

When the doors open for dinner, be welcomed to Ohana with the bellow of conch shells. Experience storytellers and coconut races, where children sweep coconuts with brooms across the hardwood floor down the center of the restaurant. The family fun continues as everyone is encouraged to play with hula hoops and dance to island music.

Character Dining at 'Ohana Restaurant

'Ohana's Best Friends Breakfast with Lilo & Stitch: Start the day with Experiment 626, or as he's known to his friends, Stitch! Lilo's here, too, to extend her Polynesian hospitality to you and your family. Join them for an American breakfast influenced by the exotic tastes of Polynesia, like Hawaiian pork sausages and Island-style potatoes, and feel like you're a part of their intergalactic 'ohana."

I thought 1900 park fare's buffet was ok, it didn't completely wow me but to be honest most Disney buffets are pretty much the same for the most part. I did like exploring The Grand Floridian while we where there, and also enjoyed the atmosphere within the restaurant. The characters we saw that day where Mary Poppins, The Mad Hatter, Alice, Winnie The Pooh and Tigger. Not sure if this is always the standard characters here so don't want to get your hopes up, especially since someone your bringing is a Winnie The Pooh fan (As am I!). You will absolutely love The Crystal Palace character breakfast, its probably one of my favorites onsite. I love having the earliest reservation possible 8:05AM, and being able to enter The Magic Kingdom before it opens. Its a wonderful photo opportunity for your family especially in front of the castle with not many people around. The restaurant atmosphere is really nice also...

I also enjoyed the buffets at Swan "Garden Grove Cafe" and The Yacht Club's "Captain's Grille Buffett", but this is a personal preference also. You can see many of the menu's on the following web page to make some decisions based on the food:

We have always loved 1900 Park Fare. The food is very good and the atmosphere is much nicer than any other buffets we have visited.

You can also walk around the GF grounds before and/or after your meal. It is a real treat to walk around and take in all the elegance that the GF has to offer. Also, if you go for dinner you can hear beautiful piano music played in the lobby.

We ate at 1900 Park Fare on our December 2007 trip with our girls. Have to say that it was the best character interaction of any of our trips, and the food was really good. Desserts were amazing. I would definitely go again!

In case the OP doesn't know, these are the characters for breakfast only. They (OP) mentioned they were thinking about doing dinner, and at dinner the characters are Cinderella, Prince Charming, the step-sisters and the step-mother. :)

Ohana dinner is SO good, but if you want to see Stitch then you need to book breakfast.

I went to 1900PF this summer and didn't care for the food. The characters were awesome though, but I'm not sure I would go back. I still like to try things for myself no matter what anyone else says, so go ahead and check it out! You will find SOMETHING you can enjoy and fill up on.

We are definately there for the characters more so than the food. :)
I didn't think there were to many choices being a buffet. But I
definatley didn't leave hungry. :rotfl:

The characters and environment there are one of the best. :goodvibes

PF is great. We enjoyed the food and the character interaction was the best on our last trip.

We LOVED the 1900Park Fare dinner. The food was fine-- not memorable, but fine.

And the characters were hysterical!!!! We still laugh about Lady Tremaine and her antics.

I know I'm out here all by myself, but I wasn't crazy about 'Ohana. It was lots of grilled food. That's nice, but not something I would run back to. This year we'll probably try Kona Cafe instead.

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at 1900 Park Fare in January. Food was good (I can't imagine anyone leaving hungry....there's lots to choose from!!) and the character interaction was great as well. The stepsisters and Lady Tremaine are a hoot.

As for the Ohana breakfast.....it is OUTSTANDING. Best character meal we had over our entire trip. Characters were amazing, service was top-notch, and the atmopshere can't be beat. If you can change your dinner reservations to breakfast, it would be well worth it......Stitch is there and he's so much fun! :banana:

Dump it dump it dump it!

We took our nieces there last month and not only did we have to wait an hour past our ressie time the food was horrible! The four of us left hungry and very disappointed. The characters were great but like DH said, we had the same characters and interaction at MK

Add us to the list of BIG FANS! :thumbsup2

We went in September (2008) and it was the favorite of the entire group (ranging from 2.25yo to 65yo)! The characters were the best we've ever experienced (this trip or prior) and we all thought the food was quite good.

We are planning on going back again in December!

Another positive vote for 1900 Park Fare. We will add it to our list again for this summer.
