1900 Park Fare too scary for a 1 year old?

I have no idea how my daughter will be 8 months from now. But, since I have to make ADRs in 2 months, I've begun planning where we'd like to eat next February. So, in general, do you think 1900 Park Fare is too scary for a 1 year old? I'm just not sure if the stepsisters are really "in your face" and would scare her if she ends up being shy. And, I'm a little concerned that I'll make reservations and the dinner gets changed to a villain meal (which I read a rumor about). We're going to do other character meals that there's a chance she may not like either. But, at least they don't talk and aren't rowdy for the most part. Any thoughts?

It's hard to say since every child is different, but in general I would say "no" it isn't scarey. Also I think most characters should be sensitive to children who are shy and don't want confrontation.

I don't think it's scary. In fact, it is less scary than some of the other meals where all the characters are in costumes as opposed to characters where you can see their faces. If they see your child is scared, they will stay away from him/her generally. When we went, my DD loved everyone except that she thought the mad hatter was scary and didn't want to go near him. He saw this and moved on without going right up to her. It's a nice place and you should have a good time!

In general I think the characters have a lot of experience with a variety of ages. I havne't been to 1900 PF but when I brought my 2yo to Cape May, it was his first day and cranky. They were quick to see that he was wary and interacted instead with DH and me. I think that if my son hadn't been comfortable with even that, they would have stayed farther away.

I think she'll be fine!

Thanks. I think my 4 year old would really enjoy that meal so maybe we'll try it. It's just so hard to make advance reservations with a 2nd child so young because they change so much in such a short time. Who knows what she'll be o.k. with 8 months from now!

The really little ones are frequently scared of the characters in masks, like Mickey or Goofy or Pooh. Think about it - an absolutely huge head, in a frozen smile that never moves, and they don't talk.

The "face" characters are frequently less scary for the very little ones. And I don't think any CM playing a character or in a costume WANTS to scare little kids - if your kid isn't reacting well I am sure they will back off - unless you insist they stick around because you want a picture, and then it's on you, not them, IMHO.

The step sisters aren't scary at all - just goofy and wildly inappropriate. Step Mom might be a little scary just because she's so stiff and formal, but it would be very out of character for her to deign to listen to a wailing child, so if she's in character, she would be the first person to high tail it away from a crying child.

I think it will be less scary considering that it's real face characters which the lil one might be able to relate more. At that age my girls really dislike Pooh and company, stitch... in reality all the none speeking characters

not scary, they r pretty funny and the step-mom acts very regal not in ur face at all

I don't think it will be scary at all for her. We have been there twice and the first time my daughter was two. The step mother saw how she was nervous so with her she was very nice and even crouched down to her level to talk to her. But with the rest of us she was in character.

We were there for dinner with our 18 month old daughter and she was fine. She actually fell asleep at the table and one of the step sisters put her finger up to say Shhh and let me take a really cute picture. (They might not be so evil after all!) Also, our daughter was actually more unsure of Mickey and Pluto trying to interact with her at the Ohana breakfast than any of the characters at 1900. Before she fell asleep that is!

I know a lot of people say that the "face" characters are less scary because they are more like "real" people and that the lo's will like it better because of that. But from our previous experiences with our ds who is now 4 and our dd that is now 20 mos., they have always preferred the "furry" characters and see them as less threatening and more like a big teddy bear. The face characters they won't go near because to them, they are just strangers and that is more terrifying. So it is hard to tell how your child will react but this has been our experience. As for it being scary, I agree that all the characters whether they are "face" or "fuzzy" are great about not overwhelming the kids if they are not interested and will leave them alone if they are a little more on the nervous side
