We just got back from an 8 day trip to the world. we arrived sunday 5/17, checked into the ASMo, took the bus to MK and then got on the monorail to the grand floridian for 7:10 ADRs.

we got there and it was mobbed - not to any surprise, i know this is a popular place. we got on line and gave them our name and they gave us a pager for when they were ready for us. we waited an hour in the hotel lobby, admiring the beauty in it.

we went back up to the podium and asked how much longer it would be (we wanted to make it to wishes at nine). turned out the computer went down and they lost everyones names and ADRs. it was complete chaos and everyone was up in arms. they were letting people in without ADRs and ppl with ADRs were flaming mad.

I stood at the podium insisting that i get in. we finally did about 20 minutes later. we enter the restaurant and it was 95% empty!! exhausted from the day of travel and starving, we finally got to our table about 8:45. we went up and got our food and it was, well, how can i say this... it was just bad. all the meat was dried out and... ugh, i was so disappointed. i had eaten here before and i really enjoyed it. I dont know what happened. it really went downhill.

also, the entire time we were there the only character that came to our table was the stepmother. out of 5 characters we only got to see one. we didnt get out of there until about 10pm - way too late for wishes. we had planned on doing EMH at MK, but we were exhausted and disappointed and it was downpouring - so we went back to the hotel and crashed. all i kept thinking was "i hope this is not a prelude to what my week was going to be like.

i am so glad it wasnt.

That is horrible. They need a back up plan if the system goes down because it sounds like the whole place couldn't function. I am so sorry for your ruined evening.

1) The computer is the computer.
2) If the system dies, EVERYTHING comes to a halt.
3) As for characters, most characters are not guaranteed.
4) People are told this at the time of the ressie.
5) Sorry you had a bad experience.

Oh man - sorry to hear that. At least make an announcement asking those who have ADR's to come back up to the podium.

Your experience sounds like our January one...we waited over an hour past our ADR time at 1900 PF and they were seating all kinds of people before us...their excuse was that the people that were finished with their dinner were not leaving because they wanted to see the characters again.

We were finally seated and the restaurant was not packed like I thought it would be. The service was horrible butt he food was gross...totally over salted and icky...the characters were fun but it was a waste of money and we will not be back there.

i am really hoping that it was just an "off" night. i really hate to think that disney has gone downhill :(

We also had a horrible time there last September. We had to wait forever in the lobby and we waited well over an hour after we finished eating to see Cinderella. She would be within 2-3 tables away and then would turn around and go back in the direction she just came from. The poor little ones at the table next to us were in tears waiting for her. We were not impressed with the food either. A total let down for us and it was the ADR my DD was the most excited about. :sad2:

3) As for characters, most characters are not guaranteed.

The specific characters might not be guaranteed, but I believe a minumum showing IS. One out of five is pathetic. Let's not kid ourselves, you're paying to see characters, and they needed to deliver.

I hope the trip improved from there!

the only other time this happened to me was the character breakfast on the disney cruise. i go to multiple character breakfasts on every trip and see ALL of the characters at every meal.

Besides the downpour of rain, the rest of our trip was good and the rest of the food and service was wonderful, in true disney style.

Now I'm a bit worried, my TA told me this was a great place and we should go. I talked it over to everyone that is going with us and we all decided to give it a try.
Should we keep this on our ADR wish list? We are going in November and our plan is to eat here before we go to MVMCP that evening.
My oh My what should we do???????:confused3

We ate both a breakfast and dinner at 1900 Park Fare. We even had to downsize our table size as my neighbours decided not to come. We waited a little for a table to open up.

First of all, I'm sorry that you had such a bad experience, but I'm glad that, from what you said, it was limited to 1900 PF. That said, for us 1900 PF was also a big letdown. From the reviews I read on The DIS, I was expecting a wonderful meal, and it really was just so-so. We booked there to get the autographs of the stepmother and stepsisters, and, given that we were successful in getting them, I'm glad that we'll never have to eat there again.

1.) Computers are not new - we know that they break down... thus any business with a brain has a back up plan.
2.) IF the system for taking our money went down - bet ya dollas to doughnuts they have a backup plan in place for taking that. They sure aren't going to tell the diners who have already eaten but not yet paid that it's on the house.
3.) That a character will be in attendance is not a gurantee, however all characters that are in attendance are supposed to make it around to every table.
4.) I have been told this several times by both waitresses and handlers
5.) I agree OP, I'm sorry your exeprince was not up to par.
The food was bad when we went, but everything else was spot on from characters to service.

I have eaten at 1900 Park Fare twice for dinner and we weren't impressed either time. We liked the characters, but not the food or where we were sat...so we probably won't be going back any time soon.

Can someone tell me who has a good character buffet. Is there at least a few good things that someone would be happy with? Its a 50/50 some really like it some dont. What makes a good buffet at disney?

Now I'm worried - managed to get a 6.10pm for next Tuesday - but these reviews don't look great :confused3

Someone convince me I haven;'t made a mistake??

We too were disappointed - in the food for sure - the character interaction was good but the food was just nasty. Not worth the money or points (if on DDP) IMHO!

I'm in for 1900 Park Fare mainly for the characters. Since I'm on free dining, I think the food would have to be inedible for me to complain strenuously. I don't find anything wonderful about the food at Crystal Palace either, but it is buffet, after all. The thing I will/would complain about is having to wait 1 hour or more to be seated. I don't think anyone should have to wait more than 30 minutes, tops.

We liked Tusker House in AK. Outside of the parks, I've heard good things about O'Hana.
