We are off to Orlando in just over three weeks and a question has arisen that I cannot find the answer to and I wondered if there was anyone around here that may be able to help. When we travel my daughter will be 19 so legally able to bring alcohol into this country duty free, however not old enough to buy it in Florida (we will buy at the airport). My question is this can myself of my husband buy it for her in Florida even though it will be above our allowance (which if I am correct and may not be, is what you can enter this country with not leave Florida with).
It is not the end of the world if we cannot use her allowance but it would be helpful if we are able to.

u can only buy what u can legaly buy so u cant buy for your daughter also
here from the cutsom site

For persons of 21 years of age or older: 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 2kg of tobacco or a combination of proportionate parts.

For persons of 21 years of age or older; 1 litre of alcoholic beverage
Including minors accompanied or unaccompanied: gifts not exceeding $100 in value, provided that the stay in the United States is not less than 72 hours and that the gift exemption has not been claimed in the previous 6 months.

Could she not buy it on the plane?

not allowed to buy on the outward journey from Florida, but she might be able pre buy from the uk on the flight as she is travelling from the uk not USA.
The amount allowed to buy in goods has risen to £350 per person(500 euros)

As per HM Customs anyone aged 17 or over can use the alcohol allowance. So yes you could buy it in FL and bring it back.

Quite often either DH or I do the duty free shop if we are bothering (worth knowing the price of what you want before going to see if it is actually cheaper) and buy 2 bottles with one passport & boarding card.

2 years ago my daughters boyfriend who was 20 at the time bought duty Free at Orlando airport and showed passport. So it wasn't s problem. Maybe also because you don't get the item until you are boarding it is ok:confused3

He bought a large bottle of southern comfort as it was a lot cheapef:rotfl2:

Actually I have just remembered he asked me to get it so I have got that wrong!

think i am getting confused with the cig allowance

Customs rules are set by the Country you are entering not leaving - so on a UK bound flight UK rules apply.

On a US bound flight US rules apply - so anyone under 21 years old could not carry alcohol into the US.
