Hey guys thanks so much for everyone's information on this board. I just won a minivan on Priceline for National for $19/day. :cool1: I am very excited about the price because we will be there from Aug 24 - Sept 10 ( mixing in a beach vacation with disney). Now the experts please tell me how I check in. Do I have to go to the counter or what?

TIA for all the responses to follow :dance3: I am so glad to have this part over.:surfweb:

I love priceline:thumbsup2
I have never bid on a car. Was is 19 $ a day including taxes and fees? How much did you start your bid at?
What was your total? We will need an economy car from 8-30 till9-11 so it would be less for us I'm just trying to get an idea of the price ranges.
I can get an economy car from hotwire for 13.95 a day with taxes its 230 for the entire trip.I thought that was a good deal.I wonder if priceline will be cheaper.
TIA
laura
just did the math for hotwire and I divided 230$ by 12 days and got 19$$ and that with all the taxes and fees. that for an ecomomy car not a minivan so you got a great deal if it was 19 wuth taxes.

Good job on the Priceline bid...I went up to $21/day yesterday for early August and didn't get anything. You do have to check in at the counter with Priceline rentals. And be sure and take your confirmation from Priceline with you. Make sure the clerk knows that it is a prepaid rental. You do not have to go to the counter on return...the reciept they print out for you in the garage should have a $0.00 balance due on it. (you will have to give them a credit card at the time of rental).

M2DDs, usually if Hotwire is showing availability for your dates you can almost always get the rental for about 20 to 30% less on Priceline...the price per day they show on Hotwire does NOT include taxes and fees (nor does the price per day you bid on Priceline)...on Hotwire you just have to select a car type and on the next page it will show you the final cost of the rental with taxes and fees. A good rule of thumb is to place a bid on Priceline for about 20 to 30% less than the Hotwire cost per day for the same type car...if you do not get what you are looking for try again in 3 days by raising your bid a little.

Hey, sorry for the delay in the response. But not $19/day was without the fees. My grand total is $474.28 for 17 days and 1 hr. That was my first bid and it was accepted.

Based on your success, I tried.

I also got a mini-van for $19/day through Alamo for September 21-30. Total after taxes & fees - $238.76.

YAY!!! Again...thank you!

Ok, I have never used priceline before. You can pick the type of car you want, but not the car company? Is this correct??

Yes Joisey...Your choices are Economy, Compact, Mid-Size, Standard, Full-Size, Premium, Luxury, Convertible, MiniVan, SUV. And, no, you can't choose the rental car company.

We have 6 people, so we know we need a mini van.

After reading your post I took the plunge and got a priceline Alamo fullsize for $14 for 8 days in Sept!

What happens if you get thrifty which is off site? That is what is holding me back from priceline. We have 2 groups with little kids. I didn't want to trail all over the place to get the car. Has anyone seen many rentals from thrifty of priceline???

Not 100% sure but I don't think they do Thrifty :confused3 maybe, a Priceline veteran can answer that today :surfweb: .

Thanks for this post!!! I have been having a hard time with Minvan rates for 8/25 - 9/7. The prices are so high! For the same timeframe last year for 14 days I got a rate of $368 through Alamo which included taxes. That is what I have been comparing the rates to and the cheapest rate so far for $500 something through Thrifty. Well, after reading this post I decided to try Priceline which I have always been afraid of. I tried $18 a day for a Minivan which was rejected. I then tried $19 which was accepted through Alamo. So I am paying $343 for 13 days for a Minivan!!! The best price on the Alamo website has been $711 which did not include taxes. I may have to try Priceline for a hotel our first night since we arrive so late and our Beach Club reservations start the next day. Thanks again!!!

:yay: I am thrilled that so many of us are getting the great rate. I tried for 2 months to get a good deal thru National and Alamo for a minivan and the rates were high :scared1: . I got a fair rate with AMEX for Alamo but did not include a free extra driver. Now I have that worked out, just waiting on the Mousesavers link for Undercover tourist for July for my tickets and I am done :woohoo:

So $19 is the cut-off. We better make sure we get the word out to others looking :rotfl:

I was also able to get a minivan through priceline for $19.00 a day for our August trip.

Do they let you know what the final price will be after taxes at the time you submit your bid? If I bid $14/day for a full size, will it leave me guessing what the total is until after my bid is accepted? Just don't want any surprises. TIA!:goodvibes

Update: nevermind... I went to their website and figured it out.

I just tried for $14 a day for a mid-size for July 22-30 and was rejected. I guess it doesn't work for busy times. Oh well, it was worth trying.

Keep trying I tried every 3 days since April until it was finally accepted.
