18th Birthday Trip - Halloween or Christmas?

My son is turning 18 right before his senior year a year from now. We are teachers so we never get to get him to Disney for his birthday. We told him he gets to choose Halloween or Christmas overlays. We would do Oogie Boogie if we do Halloween. We would be staying at VGC as it is our home resort. Which holiday overlay would you suggest and why? The kids don’t remember seeing Christmas and we have never done Halloween.

Well, Christmas is my favorite time of year and I have intentionally gone for Christmas overlays multiple times, sooooo....

That said, OBB looks like a lot of fun too!

I've been to the parks at both times of year and the decorations / theming for both is absolutely fantastic. You literally can't go wrong with either selection. So if it was my son I'd find out if he has a huge preference for Halloween vs Christmas, but if he's ambivalent about it then I'd pick the time based on other criteria. That said our family is making a special trip down in October to do OBB since that is something we haven't done before.

Do you already have tickets already for the Oogie Boogie Bash because it is sold out. I prefer Halloween because it's my favorite but Christmas is pretty magical too. What a great gift!

The OP is talking about next year, not upcoming Halloween/Christmas.

I would definitely do Christmas. I like the Halloween decorations alot, but Christmas at Disneyland is just magical

Another vote for Halloween. It's our favorite time of year, and we love dressing up each year. Also the chance to meet villains!! I do like Christmas, but Halloween is our preferred time of year to visit.

I don't think you can go wrong with either holiday time, but Christmas always wins out for me. That being said, we are doing a Halloween trip and not a Christmas trip this year (so far...).

You will love whichever you choose--great times to be at Disneyland. I'd pick based on which holiday you like more as a family. We love Halloween time but prefer Christmas due to the decorations, music loops, castle, etc. It is magical at night.
