I will be cruising on the Wonder with my 18-y.o. son and his 17-y.o. girlfriend. Am I correct in saying there is no way, no how they are going to let him into Vibe with her?

Assuming that is correct, I am trying to think of other shipboard activities that they can't do jointly. Palo, Cove Cafe, adult pool area, 18-20 Society, nightclubs (after a certain time, right - 5:00?).

We are not stopping in CC, so Serenity Bay is moot.

I guess they could do the spa/fitness center with him as her "guardian," yes?

Anything I am forgetting?I know there is still plenty for them to do, regardless.

Thanks!

You are correct- No Vibe for 18 year olds. No Cove, no Palo, no adult areas for under 18. 18/20 is for that age group, but what I have found with my kids is that sometimes groups of kids break off from that group and hang out; outside of their planned activities with that group. At that point, he could bring her along. My kids have met up with friends and done shuffleboard, trivia, crafts etc. And you are right, there is always plenty to do.

Basically whatever she can't do with you, she can't do with him. If it's really important, any chance to wait until she's 18? I really doubt that they'll split up for activities.

Thx. Rescheduling is not an option. It'll be fine; I'm just trying to get the lay of the land so expectations are properly set.

Under 18 can’t get off the ship without the adult in the cabin they are assigned to.
when you do your online check in you can fill out a form (check a box) that allows them to get off the ship.
You can also go to Guest Services once onboard and fill out the form.
***If I were you if you fill out the form online I would still check with Guest Services once onboard if you think she may want to get off the ship without a adult.

Do they look closely at the adult events or the 1820 society at ages? No clue personally but wondering if she could just come to those?

They can go to any of the clubs together during Open House time. 2/3 of the adult lounges are family friendly until 9PM. (Cadillac Lounge is always adult only.) They can go to movies together, family pool together, etc. Yes, the 17 yr old won't be allowed in the adult pool area/Cove Cafe and shouldn't be allowed to do any of the adult only things--there are different markings on their key cards to represent Adults, 18-20 yr old adults, and kids under 18 and cast members can ask to check their card if they think they're underage for that area.

My granddaughter has been in the 18 20 group where a 16 year old was allowed to participate probably based on the Disney crew member assigned to be their ‘mentor’. He didn’t care and she was the sister of another kid so everyone looked the other way. That was a pretty wild group though. A lot of drinking from parents supply of liquor. So it doesn’t hurt to bring her along and see.

And if they aren’t drinking or causing trouble it’s hard to believe she would get tossed out of the cove area. I have a problem with small kids in the cove but not a teenager who probably looks 18 anyway. Or getting coffee from the cafe. If she goes into a bar at night though and orders a soft drink she may he asked to leave if they pay attention to her age. Again it will depend on the server or bartender.

She could pass for 18, but if anyone checks her KTTW card, they will know she's not. Good to know about 1820 - I'm not sure if that is something they'd even want to do, but I guess there's no harm in asking for an exception if they want to check it out.

Many of the planned 1820 group activities are in adult areas (Cove Cafe, nightclubs at night). As mentioned above, the group does sometimes get together during the day, officially or unofficially, in areas where a 17-year-old would be allowed.

Your son can attend open houses in Vibe, but no one 18 or older (except crew, of course) is allowed during "secured programming" time.

If someone makes a comment to a CM about her potentially looking under 18 or a CM thinks she looks under 18, they may well ask for a card and will ask her to leave if she's under 18. And, yes, I have seen people under 18 be asked to leave even when not behaving badly even when they could have looked anywhere from 15 to 25. I personally do have a problem with teenagers under 18 being in the area even if well behaved and not causing problems as do many others who go into that area under the assumption that 18 means 18. If you allow one person to skirt the rules, then everyone else wonders why it should apply to them. An age is a fully unbiased, objective measure. Behaviour is not. An objective measure can be applied fairly, transparently, equally and is well known in advance. It either is or it isn't. There are no shades of grey. There's no insult or implication of poorer behaviour if one person is allowed but another isn't.

In a similar predicament.... oldest son is 18, daughter 17 on our next cruise in 2 months. They enjoy hanging out together and they’ve been trying to figure out what they can and can’t do together. Movies, shuffle board, hanging out by the pool, are what they’ve come up with too.

I don't really think it needs to be an issue. We have always cruised with our daughter. Until she was 18, we just did all of the other fun stuff on the ship and avoided the adults only stuff. No biggie and we always had a great time, with plenty to do
