So I have one son who is at the tip of being 18 and very mature and a 19 year old - who is mature but also a kid at heart. Concerned about the cutoff for adult areas as well as teen club. They love to be together. How is this going to impact their ability to mingle in their respective areas.

As you most likely know, the 19 year old will NOT under any circumstances be allowed in the teen club except during open houses. If you could tell us which ship you are sailing, we could give you some ideas of what they could do together.

As mentioned, the 19 year old will not be allowed in the Vibe except during open house hours. But my understanding (and limited experience from when my teen niece cruised with us a couple years ago), the teens may make plans and meet up in the Vibe, but then they go out and do things not in the club. Your 19 year old could meet up with the group after they leave the club.

Your 17 year old will not be allowed in the adult areas, but there are plenty of places for teens.

All in all, your two kids will be able to be together as much as they want, just not if they want to be in age-restricted areas.

The 19 yr old is also eligible for the 1820 Society -- which is a loosely organized group for those ages 18-20. Look for an announcement on the first Navigator you receive at the terminal. Both kids may end up making their own friends in their respective groups. But there are still plenty of activities they can do together on the ship if they prefer.

Enjoy your cruise!

We will be on the Dream this summer - I'm a little concerned this is going to cause a lot of friction on our cruise. We love to spend time with them and feel it will restrict us in some ways.

Look at it this way, the only places they can't go together are Vibe (except during open house hours) and the Adult areas. And some of the Adult lounges are mixed ages until 9PM. So it really won't restrict them too much. If your younger son wants to check out Vibe, your older son can check out the Adult areas. If they'd rather be together 24/7 they can do that too. In a lot of ways, you are in the same boat (sorry for the pun) as every family that has kids. You can't be together in all places, but you can be together as much as you want.

The family areas and activities will be available for you as a family or for the boys to use on their own: family pool, funnel vision movies, sports deck, mini golf, family beach on CC, trivia games, movie theater, etc. I would expect no issues in being able to find plenty to do together in family friendly locations.
My teens (13 and 16) and young adult (19) would always split up for a short while after dinner for scheduled activities at Edge, Vibe and the adult nightclub and then meet up again for the midnight movie in the theater.

I'm not sure why the age-restricted areas will cause a lot of friction. The vast majority of areas on the boat are open to all people. There are just a few places which are restricted to certain ages. There are plenty of activities that you can all do together.

If they're interested in sports there is basketball, mini golf, sports simulators ($), foosball, shuffleboard and ping pong. There is also the midship detective agency which is like a scavenger hunt around the ship, game shows, and tons of other things they can do together
