16 yo daughter was selected for TSA precheck

Pre-Check recently and everyone went through a body scanner. The point of some of the new security procedures is randomness.

Unless you are a moderator [,] dont [don't] instruct me on [sic] what to read and not read [.] you [You] made a factually incorrect statement [,] as you often do [,] and I reponded [responded] to it [,] so check your facts before hand.

I am a 1K on United, which means flying 100,000 miles a year on UA alone. I always get TSA Pre, and not once have I had to go through a body scanner. If you had read the whole thread, you would have seen that I said going through a body scanner is not the norm. I didn't say it never happens. I'm not sure why you would write that I often make factually incorrect statements. Feel free to ignore my posts.

Mileage varies . . . Have you ever in all your trips ever been randomly diverted to the regular folks screening line?

Several anecdotal reports that demonstrate pre check travelers may go through the whole body scanner. http://www.latimes.com/travel/la-tr-spot-tsa-precheck-program-20140302-story.html. But hey, happy screenings. May the odds be ever in your favor. But your lick will probably run out unless you're Katniss.

Sooo, when we say body scanners, what are we talking about? The scanners we just walk through, or the walk in, stop, hands over the head scanner? I have had the latter when in the PreCheck line at MCO, and the former in PreCheck at Boston's Logan. I have had PreCheck listed on my bp as well as been randomly directed to that line....in both airports.
I truly don't think there is any rhyme or reason here.

They aren't referring to the traditional metal detectors that you just simply walk through.

As an Executive Platinum on AA, and a member of Global Entry, I can agree. If an airport has a DEDICATED TSA Pre-Check line, it will ONLY have a metal detector in that line. Plenty of airports still don't have that dedicated line (ROA, I'm looking in your direction here), in which case I may have pre-check and still have to do things the "normals" have to do.

However, in an airport that has a dedicated pre-check line, I have NEVER seen a body scanner in that line. Have I had pre-check and been put in the body scanner line because of needs at the airport, yes. But have I ever seen a pre-check dedicated line with a scanner? no.

The essence of randomness . . .

Well that - PreCheck, dedicated line and selection for MMW scanner - differs from PP's assertion.

I have Global Entry, my home airport is MSP. There is now a body scanner in the dedicated PreCheck lane, which is at Checkpoint 4 in Terminal 1 at MSP. How do I know? Because two weeks ago, I was selected to go through it, randomly at that checkpoint. I went through the metal detector, just like I normally do, it made an extra beep, and they said, "Sorry, you got randomly selected to go through the body scanner, so just step over there." This had never happened before, after dozens of flights with Global Entry through the PreCheck line, so I asked what I did "wrong" and he said nothing, it was totally random. It took me maybe 10 seconds to go over to the body scanner, which was just past and to the right of the regular metal detector, I went through it, and that was that. My luggage wasn't subject to additional search, and they did nothing else.

This is the first time it happened to me, I don't remember seeing the machines at Checkpoint 4 before (I just may not have noticed them), but this could be a new "thing."

I'll double check tomorrow, but at Logan, if I remember correctly, the dedicated PreCheck line has the capacity to go to a metal detector and a body scanner. Last time I used it, some were directed to the scanner, I was directed to the nearer metal detector.

I had that happen to me in RDU a few months ago, but the body scanner wasn't in the pre-check line, it was separated. I'll be disappointed if they start putting them in the "fast" line. Right now, out of STL, I can get from the garage to the lounge in less than 7 minutes

This is how it was in our line at Philadelphia last week as well as Orlando yesterday. I had had pre-check, one of my dd's had pre check and the other dd did not, we separated and went through our "assigned" lanes. In Philadelphia I had to use the body scanner while my dd was directed through the metal detector.

In Orlando yesterday via pre-check we were both directed through the metal detector only although there was a body scanner available, it seemed from watching that anyone who beeped the metal detector was then re-directed through the body scanner.

Luckily even the regular lines were moving in both airports and we were only waiting for my dd who didn't have pre for about 5 minutes.

I may be late to the party on this post. However, I think my experience might be helpful for future reference. We flew from JFK in June and our DD 10 was the only one who had a precheck ticket (we never thought about separating from her) when we got to the TSA line they saw her ticket and let us all through precheck (DH, DS 14 and myself) and it was the same at MCO on the way home. We flew JetBlue, for what it's worth.

On the Southwest home printed, boarding pass, what does the pre check look like? I printed out my pass this morning, and it has "RR" on it,
no check mark, hmmm I wonder .....

On Southwest, I believe RR means rapid rewards. Nothing to do with TSA precheck.

Back to the original question I would not only let her go but would stack who gets what to make everyones trip easier.

Example: DH and I only have one 3-1-1 bag for us both when we fly. If I had pre check and he didn't I take the bag. I also take the laptop. Sometimes we only have one large carry on in addition to our backpacks, if so I take that too.

Leaves DH to just put his bag down take off his shoes but those down and walk through.

RR would be rapid reward. When I've seen travelling companions with TSA Pre, it's had a checkmark and 'TSA Pre' next to it. Looking at google images of various boarding passes, 'TSA PRECHK', 'TSA PRE', or the checkmark and text will be on there. It would be pretty hard to miss IMHO.

Found a picture that has multiple examples...

Dh got chosen for PreCheck, on his boarding pass, on Monday. I did not. There were so many people in the PreCheck line that I beat him by about 5 mins. They were using the metal detector there. I had the whole body scanner.
