Hi!

Still at 176.5...it's not much, but I'd love to see my number move (Thanks, Tara!).

My eating and TM have been greatly compromised by company, but this week I am back to working on a new TM goal -- 27 miles! I will really have to push to get there, so wish me luck!

Next week is TOM, so who knows what that weigh-in will look like!

Dona -- You are doing great! Blueberries are so good for you! Excellent job. :goodvibes

Jen -- Great job of hitting all the food groups. You can't go wrong when you get your fruits and veggies! :thumbsup2

Wendy -- I know what you mean about the scale. It can vary so much in one day for me! :confused3

Tara -- When you get that self-control, just send it over to me! :rotfl2:

Renee -- You are on a roll! What awesome momentum! :woohoo:

Nikkibell -- Have you jumped back in?! :Pinkbounc

Gracer9977 -- How's it goin'?

Linda, Kathy, Debra, Tracy and Everyone Else -- It's the heat of summer, let's melt those pounds away! :drinking:

Hello Ladies :wave2:
I am 35 years old and have DS7 and DS4. I have been over weight my entire life. My weight yo-yos up and down and have been on many diets. My family is planning a DW and DC for next April '07 and so I accidentally came across this board while planning. I have become DIS addicted and met many friends. Today I came across your thread and thought you were definatly a God-send. This weekend I decided to start watching my food again and walking on my TM again..... :guilty:
I weighed in today at 205 and have not been in the 150s since middle school. Realistically, I would love just to be in the 170's. So, I would love to join your club and maybe you guys can show me some tips since some of you have lost so much. :woohoo:
My question for today is..... How do I utilize my TM for most benefit. I have read many OP's everywhere but came seem to find the one for me. I am 5'9 and big boned. I am large behind and thighs. Should I walk for long periods of time at level (speed)3.5 or push myself up to 4 and get in the miles faster? Someone said to walk at 3 and every 10 minutes bump up the speed to 4.5 for 2 minutes to get my heart rate up and then go back down to 3. Does anyone know what's the best? :listen:

Also, can you explain what you guys are doing right now with WI and excercise challenge? :confused3
Can't wait to hear from you. :Pinkbounc

Angie - All I can say about using the treadmill is to start off slow. You don't want to injur yourself. You can easily get shin splints if you move too long and too fast. I got my treadmill in Jan and was only comfortable doing 2.8 to 3 mph. I am now consistantly us to 3.8 mph. Make sure that you stretch after you walk. I have read that speed will come if you are a consistent walker. Good luck.

Your sons are adorable. I have two boys who were that cute once. They are now 21 and 16 and yes they are still cute.

Angie! Welcome!!!! Yes, I agree cute boys!!! And I'm a big fan of walking...here is what gets the weight off me and keeps it coming off....walk for a minimum of 45 minutes....it may take some time to work up to that...but even if you start out doing 15 minutes at 3.0 every morning and night then by the second week work up to 45 minutes...you'll get there. I would stall walking 30 minutes...but when I added that 45 minutes in there it kept the weight coming off steadily...and if I chose 2 days to up it to 60-70 minutes it really came off....

I would start out at 3.0 for 5 minutes, jump to 3.5 for 15 minutes, if you're not breathing hard and your heart rate is still in good training mode then try and jump it up to 4.0 for 2-3 minutes...check your heart rate if it's still good then stick to it until you feel the need to go down...usually 5 minutes is a good time...then lower it to 3.5 for 15 minutes and try to go back up to 4.0 again for a spurt...then back to 3.5 and then the last 2-3 minutes go back down to 3.0...that's a goood workout and will want you craving your water! :)
I like to walk 3 days on and one day off...that seems to work...keep checking in and letting us know how it's going! You'll be ready for that trip in April..plenty of time to get you to the 150's! :)

Dona! How have you survived having those boys? Do you still have food in the house? My son is 11, I was hoping when he hit the teens that I would lose weight simply because I couldn't keep food in the house! :)

Maria!! Good job keeping the company...you're a great host...I promise if I ever come to visit, I'll keep you walking and we'll go veggie shopping! :)

Off to bed! 3 hours on the tennis courts....mostly serving balls to little guys but I was out there....need to get my walk in the morning!
Tara

Hi Tara I am doing okay without my dh and ds . There is still food in the house because my older ds had a party on Sunday. Luckily they took the chips and stuff with them on Sunday. With teenage sons there is always food in the house because if they don't have anything to eat they complain and you don't want to hear that. Butr it does leave just as fast as it comes in. :confused3

SUMMER CHALLENGE 2006

:sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:

END OF WEEK 5

Tara

Sorry to be late on check in, but started at a new store and well, life just gets in the way. This post is going to be a quick one as well.

I am WI in at a loss of another pound! Down to 213! Yippee! 13 more to go to Sept!

Great losses to all!

Wendy

I'm down one, finally, was sitting on a big plateau for awhile. I'm down to 209. I've got lots of exercise planned this week and was able to get my toddler into the day care at the gym so she'll get to play and I'll get to work out this week!

Hi Tara,
Thanks so much for the TM schedule! :yay:
That was just what I was wanting someone to tell me. Yesterday my and the boys walked down our road. They road bikes and I tried hard to keep up. :rotfl: We're going to the school to walk (and ride) tonight. Tomorrow I'll try your routine.

Thanks again and I'll WI in next Monday and see if I've progressed any.
See ya :wave2:

Hi. y just had to come to complain. I am beginning to hate July. Since I am a school teacher I ususally schedule al my medical tests and physical for July adn Aug. Two years ago I found out that I had a thicker than normal optic nerve and they thought they saw something on my mamogram. The optic nerve thing means pre-gloucoma. The mamogram was nothing according to a breast surgeon. Last year was okay nothing came up.

But yesterday I got a call from my doctor. My bone scan came back and I am pre-osteoporsis. My back is fine but they saw some loss in my hips. My number is -1.4 not really bad but not where they would like to see it. I am upset becasue after my heart thing in Jan and now this. Just add another thing I need to know about. Also my husnand is not home and my 21 yr old just won't understand. I was okay about turning 50 last year but this is getting to be too much. Okay enough complaining.

My doctor is playing it safe, she just wants me to make sure I get more calcium and walk, which is what I have been doing since Jan. I guess I need to make sure I do it more often than just 2 time a week. We will check again next year.

In one week I go for my eye check up and in two weeks I go for my mamogram. That is the one that I most nervous about. My breasts have gone down in size and I am worried that things that have always been there could show up and send up a red flag.

Thanks for listening. Off to the treadmill and yoga before it gets too hot.

I am trying to get back into the groove of eating healthy and exercising. Weekends have been sabatoging me as I haven't been home for a weekend since early June. Last night I walk/ran for 36 min and then did a 16 mile bike ride for a total exercise time of 88 min. I have to force myself to get moving in the evenings.

Dona - I hear you about turning 50. I have a regular mamogram once a year and have to have the left side done again every 6 months. They are watching some spots. My mother is a breast cancer survivor so I am not taking any chances. I have never had a bone scan but know I have severe arthritis in my neck so all the doctors feel the rest of my spine probably looks about the same. Both my mother and sister have had both knees replaced and my baby (43) brother has severe arthritis in his hips.

I am still fighting the pain in my shoulder. I go back to the ortho next Wed. I am also hyperflexing my left knee and need to ask her about that. During my run walk last night, my foot started hurting again during the 3rd min of running. I am going to start out with 30 sec of running and 4.5 min of walking to see what effect that has. I am signed up to do the Army Ten Miler in Oct with Lynne. I need to be able to maintain a 15 min mile so I have to get faster than I am now.

My weight is stuck at 180. I need to keep moving consistently. Today should be a rest day so I'm getting a massage. I may hit the TM after I get home to walk if it's not too late.

I will try to be less of a stranger. I have been lurking but not posting.

Have a great day everyone. Need to get back to trying to be productive.

Oh Dona--sending lots of pixie dust your way! I do have osteoporsis to the point that it is mildly arthritic. I do the calcium thing, exercise, and wait til the day I may have to go on medication. I too have lost a cup size and have my mamogram at the end of July. We will do well! I will toss some flowers into Lake Michigan and have it travel to you, no matter where you are.

Best of luck to you!

Wendy

Thanks Wendy for the kind words

My mother is on medication and I am hoping to avoid it as long as possible. I also don't want to talk to one of my friends because she is a nurse and aways finds the worst of everything. So right now I have no one to talk to until my husband gets home and gets some rest. Maybe we can talk on Monday.

Good luck on your mamogram. Mine is scheduled for Aug 2nd.

Hello all,
Well I lost again but it wasn't a very big loss, only .4 but at least I lost and it is my TOM soo I guess I can't complain too much. I only have 1.8 more to lose to get to -10. That is my goal for next week. I am sitting at 194 even right now. 8.2 total lost since I started on June 7.

Congrats to all those that have lost and hugs to those that haven't. Hang in there, we will make it!! Thanks to all for your continued support.
Have a Disney Day, Renee

Just popping in. I haven't been here in a looooooong time, and believe me, I'm further than ever from my 150's dreams, but I'm trying, slowly but surely, I'll get there :)

Dona!!! :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:
Okay, it's really hard to hear those words from the doctor and to worry about the words they "might" come in the next week....but let's focus on YOU and how this can be a good thing! Just think 40 years ago folks never would know until it's too late...now you can work in some mozzarella cheese sticks...drink a cup of skim milk as a snack...and get those dairy products in there....the walking will go a long way to building stronger bones...one year of walking 4-5 times a week (just 15-30 minutes) will do you wonders! Imagine the pride you'll have walking into the office next year....and try and let your anxieties go...stress is a big factor in poor health...and exercise will help you cut out that stress! I know it sounds like I'm trying to just focus on the good of this and I do understand the misery (I've had several health issues....seizures in college, breast tumor removed when I was 20, severe car accident that left me with a back that was the worst the doctor had seen in anyone my age (thanks doc for the comparison)) but I've really tried to focus on what I can do about it than how it affects me....you can do this!!!!

Congrats Nikki on the loss!!! That's AWESOME!!!! So glad you're with us! :) :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Naisy...hey you're moving down each week...that's something to cheer about! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc Keep moving and eating right and you'll see bigger losses next week...sometimes our bodies need a week of adjustment to flush out extra pounds.

02bacelt! YAHOO 2 pounds!!! Y'all are giving me some great motivation by writing down these losses!!! Keep 'em coming! :)

NYCPA...hey, just think in one pound you'll be DONE with the 80's! I wish I could say I'm where you are...the winter was worse for me..but I'm with you and sticking with it! :)

Let's go team! We can make this happen! I've been teaching a tennis team of kids 6-16...having a blast and it keeps me more active...trying to add more walks and cardiopilates...that makes me feel stronger and able to resist those bad foods! :)

Tara

Thanks Tara for the kind words I will get through the next month. I think that is also one of the reasons that I do my medical stuff in the summer if I can because I am so much more relaxed. I would not be thinking about it so much except that I have been spending a lot of time alone this week and that will change in a couple of days.

Congrats to all who have lost this week. Keep up the good work and we will see a big difference by September.

Hi, I'm formerly a 150's club member and have recently entered the 140's I was just wondering if there is anyone else out there that would like to create a 140's club with me.

Hello to all!

Hope you had a great talk with DH Dona! We will do well on all these things! And I will send some petals to you before you go to the dr's. I am anxious a bit for next Wednesday, but I know that I will be ok. We all have worked to hard to what is best for us and for our families and we will reach our goals. It may seem that we just can't do another challenge in our lives, but I believe we only get what we can handle. There are days I wish for the pixie dust to be more than thoughts, and really feel as if there is no one but me out there. But sharing the anxiety with my hubby really helps. He puts me back at even keel, and off we go. I wish you the same!

Now, it seems like we are all on a great track with our weight loss challenge!

Here is some more good thoughts and encouragement to keep it going!

:cheer2: pixiedust:

Everyone have a great day, and great losses!

Wendy

Thanks Wendy for the kind words. My dh will be home in 2 days. We probably won't be able to talk for 3 to 4 days because of everything that needs to be done when he gets home. His brother and family is visiting from KS and Sunday is the only day we can see them before they leave. My problem is minor right now. My older ds had most of his credits accepted at the college he wants to go to in Sept. He was there 3 years ago but his grades weren't that good so he came home and got his Associates Degree. I would prefer him to stay at home but I realize that he needs to go back to prove himself. I just hope that he can do it. Now we need to find him a place to stay and deal with all that goes along with that.

Good luck Wendy with your mamogram on Wednesday. I hope you get good results very quickly.

How is everyone else doing? I hope you are having a good summer. I hope it is not too hot for everyone. It is supposed to be in the 90's here this weekend and we are going to my in laws with no pool and not a lot of shade in the yard. My sisterinlaw planned this party for the weekend and she has been known to have things catered. I am bringing something (she hasn't been told that I am bringing anything) because she never gets anything that my sons will eat and I am also bringing a vegetable tray because my in laws never have one. She is the only person who can have Thanksgiving at her house and I can still not go off my diet because there is ve3ry little that I want to eat (She caters everything and everything has a sauce on it, green beans in white sauce, sweet potatoes in a sugar coating and white potatoes in a cheese sauce. The only thing she had that my younger son would eat besides the turkey was corn. I had to stop him from taking the entire bowl :rotfl2: She couldn't even get plain bread so I can't wait to see what she is planning for this weekend.) (Thanks for listening)

If it is not too hot where you are get out and enjoy the summer. It willbe gone before you know it.
