15 year old kills 9 year old in my hometown UPDATE: Page 3

I think what she did was horribal but i don't think you should put her in prison for life. A long time like 25-30 years.
Or put her in a mental institute she sounds like she is crazy from what i have read.

She killed a little girl to see how it would feel...As others have said, sociopathy cannot be cured or rehabilitated. She needs to be locked away where she cannot hurt another living thing...EVER!

ETA: My prayers are also with the families.

yeah, this wasn't an act of rage, or a fight gone bad, etc. whole different story here.
it's unfortunate that her life is also basically over so young. but what other choice is there really?

No details on how she was killed. Just that the killer lead the authorities to her body. I know on Nancy Grace they were saying that the authorities had written evidence which lead them to develop her as a "person of interest." There is speculation that the written evidence was a letter by the killer (at least according to Nancy Grace.)

I had guessed that the suspect was female -- the statements by the police were very oddly careful to be gender-neutral, which IME is unusual, even when a juvenile is involved. Most of the time they mention a suspect's gender, so having that information withheld made it obvious that they suspected a woman.

I've been on the edges of the rumor mill, too. One thing that is being leaked is that it was a long-premeditated murder, with a gravesite prepared well in advance. The other thing that I have heard through the grapevine (no official anthing to back this up) is that the written evidence may be a school paper showing intent.

Essentially, this is the Leopold and Loeb case all over again. Horrible.

:sad1:
What a tragedy for those involved and in the community as well!

Over a year ago in my town, a 15 year old 8th grader shot another 8th grader in the middle of the class right in the head. The poor boy died a couple days later and apparently the shooter didn't like the boy because he was gay. He's in jail and they're charging him as an adult.

He should go away for life! I am still puzzled over the 15 and in 8th grade thing!! Perhaps he has something wrong with him to begin with that he is 2-3 grades behind where he should be!

not to go off topic, but how is a 15 yer old 2-3 grades behind if he's in 8th?
maybe 1 grade behind but it would be a rare except for one of the 11th graders at dd's school to be 15. she's 15 and in 9th, most of her friends are 15 but there's some 15 year old 8th graders as well (and i suspect it will be even more common with future highschoolers since the trend seems esp. with boys to wait till they are closer to 6 to enroll them in kindergarten).

back to the topic-this is why i'm glad i live in the state i do, even if a jury or a judge went for a light sentence, if a person is still deemed to be a danger to the public at the end of their sentence (even if they've served every single day) they can be held indefinatly.

Actually both the victim and the suspect were 15 at the time. So I'm assuming they were both a grade behind. I was 14 when I graduated 8th grade.

They've been putting off the the suspect's trial for awhile now. His father passed away about a day or two before one trial was scheduled, so they postponed it. I believe his father commited suicide. :sad2:

my nephew was held back in kindergarten. his b-day is the beginning of october. he's in 8th grade and just turned 15. nothing "wrong" with him, just a late birthday (the cut off is september 30th), and held back once, which isn't unheard of.

My daughter will turn 14 in October of her 8th grade year. She started school exactly on time. Cutoff here is September 30th, so she couldn't start K until she was already 5 about to be 6.
If she had gotten left back 1 time, she would turn 15 in 8th grade, and plenty of smart, successful people have gotten left back in grammar school.

I didn't, but friends with more degrees than I have, did!

TRAGIC UPDATE:

As if this thing could not get any worse. I had heard that a writing teacher at the high school committed suicide after the murder. What is now being confirmed is that the perpetrator turned in a paper that in some way detailed the intent of her crime. This teacher by all accounts was a wonderful, ethical teacher. My mom was telling me he marched with MLK and even went to jail for protesting during the Civil Rights era. Apparently, he blamed himself for not recognizing the paper for what it was. :(

More details have come out about the details of the killing and the gravesite, but I don't want to say too much until police release those details. These are all through the grapevine at this point. But if they are true, the level of planning on behalf of the perpetrator is absolutely unbelievable.

Through a little internet sleuthing I was able to find some details about the killer, including her name and picture as well as her family life. It had already been reported that she lived with other relatives other than her mother and father. Apparently both of her parents have a rap sheet a mile long. If you do some sleuthing you can also find Twitter posts by her, and they are disturbing to say the least. What a senseless tragedy, and scary to think that somebody so young could do such a horrible thing, particularly if the details being bandied about Jefferson City are anything close to accurate.

ETA: My mom told me they could not have given this case to a better judge in our area. He has a reputation for being tough but fair, with a good head on his shoulders and *gasp* common sense. She said he is not radical in either way but just right there in the middle.

This whole story is just so tragic. I am so sorry for all the loss and sadness that must surround so many in your hometown.

Me too.

So much to this story is troubling. It reminds me of the VA Tech case in that the shooter also had signs of mental illness/ mental issues in which people did not come forward. :(

Sociopaths are born, not made. It doesn't matter where her parents are or what her family did or did not do. This was likely always coming. If they ever let her out because they factor age into it she WILL kill again. She will NEVER stop.

When my DH told me a 15yo girl had done it I knew that sociopathy was the only explanation.

How terribly sad...I can understand his guilt, but it's awful that this deranged 15-year-old has now basically caused two deaths.

They should do the rest of the world a favor, if you know what I mean.

I read this thread and it reminds me so much of a case that happened around here a long time ago - where a young boy bludgeoned another boy to death with a bat just to see what it felt like. That child was tried and convicted as an adult. He was put in a maximum security prison for the rest of his life. He was 13 - it was so tragic and so unfathomable. It seemingly came out of nowhere - though as with this case there were signs but people missed them.
