I had seen the link for the video on CNN, but had not clicked on it because I figured it was some big city like New York. Today when talking to my mom on the phone she was saying that she almost got caught in the funeral procession for the 9 year old who was killed. I asked her what happened and she said the girl was killed by a 15 year old girl. This was in St. Martin's, Missouri which is considered part of my hometown, Jefferson City.

Elizabeth Olden, the child who was killed, went to what was essentially my old elementary school. (They closed my school and put all the kids in a new one this year.) The 15 year old went to the high school I had 9th grade at. This is about 5 or 10 minutes from my house. The stepfather of Elizabeth is a Minister and the funeral was at the baptist church I went to.

It's crazy. Jefferson City is a beautiful, quiet city. These things have always been big city problems. We used to ride our bikes around not just our neighborhood, but all the neighborhoods- sometimes well after dark. To think something like this has happened in our hometown is just unimaginable.

Elizabeth had gone out to play with a friend and disappeared on the way home. There was a huge search for two days, and the girl who did the killing lead them right to the body. Obviously, the police are keeping it tight lipped, but in a city this size where there is only one public high school, things are leaking out. The girl apparently has a history of sociopathic behavior, including killing animals. And the rumors are she did it just to see what it would feel like to kill a person. Please keep my hometown in your prayers. This is apparently the second murder in a month, there was also an attempted robbery/kidnapping as well. This stuff just doesn't happen there. It's been a tough month for everybody. Please keep the students at Pioneer Trail (Elizabeth's school) in your prayers. And of course Elizabeth's family, I can't imagine the pain they are going through right now. You've heard of the phrase babies having babies? It's like it's babies killing babies. It's unbelievable.

The hearing for the defendant was today. We find out next week if she will be charged as an adult or a juvenile. Obviously there is a push for charging her as an adult.

Sadly, there are insane, dangerous people everywhere. I've been following this story. It is a double tragedy. That poor little girl was murdered. The boy, who had a history that should have alerted people to his problem, did not receive any type of help. Now, he'll either be executed or sent to jail for life. The whole thing is just terrible.

It was actually a girl that did the killing, which makes it even wierder. The police have not released the gender, but when you have one high school in the entire city, it doen't take a genius to put two and two together. Apparently she wasn't even living with her parents, but with some other family members.

I know Elizabeths' father and possibly brother are in prison, but mom divorced the dad and married a minister who from the sounds of it was really close. The mom works at a convenience store the husband of my mom's best friend frequents on his way to work, so he's gotten a lot of information from there. Not to mention the people who knew the kids involved.

ETA: Becaues she is 15 she is ineligible for the death penalty. I am hoping for life in prison. If the rumors are true and the girl has indeed already exhibited sociopathic behavior, there is a little no chance of rehabilitation. Studies have shown that rehabilitation is possible early on the in the crime cycle, when you are dealing with more petty crimes. Once the person progresses to rape or murder, particularly if that person has exhibited behaviors in the homicidal triad (cruelty to animals, arson, and bedwetting), rehabilitation is pretty much impossible and the best you can do is remove them from society for the protection of society.

These types of murders are especially horrendous. Unfortunately sociopaths cannot be cured, so the likelihood of her doing it again cannot be ignored.
I feel terrible for Elizabeth's family.

I'm from NY too, SI to be specific and there, unfortunately, there seemed to be almost as many dangerous kids as adults roaming the world.

I am so sorry this happened. I happen to think this particular child needs to be tried as an adult. Sociopaths are permanently broken... nothing can save this 15 year old now. Even worse is the thought that if they let her out she could go on to have children and what horrors their lives would be.:sad1:

This is just awful. So senseless.

Very tragic indeed. However, horrors like this have been happening in small towns across America for decades. This is not a recent phenomenon.

Wow! That makes it even more bizarre. You do not hear of female sociopathic killers very often. Tragic.

I didn't know bedwetting was a sign of a homocidal sociopath...

Is that how you got your name? ;)

OP - you should be careful not to divulge too much info. The authorities are really trying to be careful.

I didn't know bedwetting was a sign of a homocidal sociopath...

It's part of the "Macdonald triad," named for the doctor who identified the three characteristics (arson, bedwetting past age 5, and cruelty to animals), a set of characteristics associated with sociopathy. Obviously, many kids wet the bed that aren't or don't become sociopaths. Some theorize that parental neglect ties into the connection between sociopaths and bedwetting.

I've been following this story since poor Elizabeth went missing. Her family and the community have been in my prayers.

I'm really surprised to hear it was a girl who killed her.

Over a year ago in my town, a 15 year old 8th grader shot another 8th grader in the middle of the class right in the head. The poor boy died a couple days later and apparently the shooter didn't like the boy because he was gay. He's in jail and they're charging him as an adult.

I was also surprised to hear that it was a girl, shocked really, but if she had a history of killing animals then she has no respect for life in general. :sad2:

I had heard that the girl who was killed was a playmate of the killers sister. It could be that she was sticking up for her little sister, but she took it way to far.

I feel so sorry for the family. :sad1:

I think what she did was horribal but i don't think you should put her in prison for life. A long time like 25-30 years.
Or put her in a mental institute she sounds like she is crazy from what i have read.

 really??? wow. i might agree if this was some sort of accident. but not for a murder such as this. from the few details we have been given so far i don't see her ever being a productive member of society. :confused3 scary
