15 Things I Think About Our Recent Trip...

I have notice a lot more people of all sizes and ages and sexes riding the ECV's. But they always seem to be trapped surrounded by crowds. To me it is a wonder that any of them can get anywhere. I have never seen anything but careful driving. Now the strollers...... well. Completely different story. I too have tripped over, jumped over or wiggled out of the way quickly to miss injury of an out of control parent pushing the stroller at high speed. In fact , one year in line at IASW I was standing in line, standing still and a mother side swiped me with a stroller, cut my ankle and then blamed me for getting in her way. Naturally I was standing still and she was behind me so that made all kinds of sense. I was p.o.ed and almost fell onto her kid. The kid could have been hurt. and she could have cared less. The line wasnt moving so I dont know what her rush was. but to me it is the strollers that I find dangerous. Too bad because I sympathize with the parents. Most of the time they look so exhausted that they should be in a stroller being pushed. Too bad really. They never look like they are having fun. None the less, I am always a little cautious around the strollers.
now as far as the weight problem in the USA. it is so personal. I have never had a weight problem but I have had a knee injury. I can only imagine what it must be like to have knee pain or body aches because of being over weight. It must be terrible. like my mother always said, "put yourself in their shoes for a day before you judge". The thing I love about DL is that big or small, DL is there for all of us. I know I sound like a real Polly Anna but,who cares.I dont think the OP meant any harm though. It didnt read antagonistic to me. I live in Los Angeles, the land of the Beautiful and perfect. anyone 5lbs above organ failure is considered "fat". Judgement is all over the place here, DL is a place where people should be able to be themselves without fear of judgements. I know the world isnt perfect but it is a little closer to perfect at Dl. dont cha think?

10. When I was in my 20's, I could spin all day and the teacups ride never bothered me. In my 30's, it is a completely different ride. <Sad face>

My husband has this same problem, he gets a scopalamine patch (motion sickness) from his Dr. and now he can ride with no problems.

Am I the only one who took offense to the description of the CM at Redwood Creek?

I don't understand why people throw race/culture into a description when it has no bearing on the behavior witnessed. Would the OP state the same behavior with the added race description if the CM was white?

I realize it's likely not an intentional prejudice or sterotyping, but it is something we all should watch and try not to continue.

I think he was describing this cast member so we would be able to identify this employee when at the park. Political correctness is just over the top.

:goodvibes We were in the park this weekend and here is our 15 Things I think About Our Recent Trip

1. We got to meet 3 special Disboard Members!!! We had the bestest day with these girls.. so much fun and did all kinds of things we have never done before! Stacerita and Zoe5 as well as TooCherie are All Star Disboard People to Meet!:thumbsup2

2. We enjoyed watching the magic cart magician in downtown disney as we walked along and listed to the music.

3. We had delicious coconut shrimp appetizers with wonderful wine at Ralph Brennahs {spelling?}, it was so relaxing just sharing this snack and time.

4. We had a really great spot to watch the fireworks.. we walked off the train and sat down on a bench center to mainstreet and saw the most beautiful night lights in the california sky.

5. We had so much fun trading pins.. my DH got the old black crow from Dumbo.. i believe butch is his name.. and i was able to get some pins my grandchildren collect. { This weekend we are having a slumber party at my home and will lay out all the pins and they can take turns picking the ones they want}

6. The golden zepher is really silver and such a wonderful ride.. it felt so good to feel the wind blowing through my hair and the warm sunshine on my face.. i Loved it!

7. I was sooooOOOoo haPpPy to take the monorail back to tomorrowland after we walked through DCA and then downtown disney!

8. The 3 d muppet show was just as special this trip as it was 20 years ago in WDW. And brought back many sweet memories of our now grown children as babies.

9. My DH *Loves* Churros! He now knows where the Churros carts are throughout the parks.:rotfl: Me, not so much! I just licked the cinammon and sugar off then he threw it away.

10. The moving talking trashcan was sooo cute!

11. Peter Pan is my favorite ride... i just wish it would go on and on..so many wonderful things to see in it.

12. Chimmichangas are so good to get before the park closes and take back to your room and snack on before bed while you chatterbox about what a supergreat day you had at disneyland!

13. I had my mothers name put on a really pretty pair of disney ears that lights up tiny fireworks on the front by the castle.. i'm going to surprise her with it right before we go on the Disboards Girl's Trip in March.

14. We loved watching all the different kinds of people... fat people, skinny people, old people, brand new just born people..and all of those in between. It was funny to see the commonality of awe, happiness, tiredness, hunger, eagerness, delight and frustration on so many different people from all walks of life.

15. It was special to go to white water snacks and order the beef nachos and have a yummilicious dessert.. we laughed with the manager who noticed we were from texas and said..be sure and tell us how the nachos compare.. welllllll they were super great...so we told him as we left.. "Well who would have known the best nachos in texas are in california!" .. He told the cook while we were there and they were verrrrrrrrrry HaPpPy!

Wow! I could go on and on.. so many great moments.. maybe that's just how we roLL.:goodvibes

There are always many comments on this board about Disneyland being Walt's park, but I sometimes wonder what he would think about this controversy if he were alive today......

I'm thinking Walt would have thought of a way to utilize those EVCs for an E ticket ride. :thumbsup2 :stir:

As a 9 y/o in the mid 60s....I would have loved to ride those things. :moped:

Plus it would have shortened the "around the mountain" lines at the Matterhorn during those PRE - SM, Splash, FP days. :)

I just wanted to say I think the issue with bad ECV drivers is that fact that about 90% of these people only use these at DL. My Mom was SCARY, at first because she had never driven one before. She has a bad knee and while she can get around fine in her daily life, she knew there was no way she could do all the walking that DLR requires, so she rented one.

Personally I think just like before you take out the Segways you should be trained to use the EVC's. Some of those people think that it only works at full speed or not moving at all in a fully blocked path.

Just to stick up for the ECV drivers for a moment.....

I had to get one on our last trip for a day.

I was very careful and never had the speed up to more than 1/2 way.

There were times when I was not moving, waiting behind someone, when people would run into ME, either from the sides or behind, and look at me as if I had done something wrong.

Seriously, I wasn't moving, not sure where they expected me to go. The park was packed that day, and if I could have walked at all I wouldn't have gotten one.

Just to diffuse a lot of unneeded drama, my intent was not to insult anyone. Please don't jump on the soapbox and try to blow my comments up into something that it isn't. I know some might want to get confrontational and act offended over the comments of a completely unknown internet stranger, but trust me, it isn't worth it.

Now, on that note, the people I was referring to were the ones driving those things that were rude and inconsiderate, and didn't really even belong in one. Yes, many people require those devices and nobody should hold any ill will toward them, but my only real beef is that it I've encountered a few, a very small few, that are inconsiderate to others in the way they utilize their motorized assistance.

Sorry for the controversial remarks.

I understood what you were saying and it didn't bother me since you were stressing rude drivers, not if or why the cart use is needed.
I do think I got food poisoning at Blue Bayou once..but hey..maybe is was the 5 pounds of oil in the Monte Cristo..anyway..I am now a gumbo convert! Stuff is great.

I could also ride Pirates all day..never gets old.

All the rides down in DCA was unfortunate..especially if you were one of the folks stuck on Screamin :scared1: It's too bad Toy Story was down..what a great ride and one of the few worth standing in line for ..Of course the Wheel is down for re-do, but I think they are doing a pretty good job of trying to re-do DCA without too much problem.

Peter Pan is just too wonderful from a nostalgia sense for me to miss it, no matter the line. I'd ride with Dad and my brother would ride with Mom. My Dad's been gone for 22 years but everytime I'm in that ship and Peter says "Here we gooooo" he's back with me.

I keep wanting to check out that Redwood Challenge thing but never get around to it..but a rude cast member should be reported to someone somewhere.

I didn't think your report was rough at all! Sounds like a typical Disney day :)

Am I the only one who took offense to the description of the CM at Redwood Creek?

Yep, looks like you are.

You try describing someone in a few words without using race, gender, age, weight, or anything else considered taboo in today's pc culture. What's the OP supposed to resort to, number of teeth, color of fingernail polish, size of earlobes? Seriously.

I think this is a very uninformed statement that you are making here. You don't know the person's circumstances for being in a motorized wheelchair, and often times it isn't because of their weight. I hope that person in the cart didn't overhear whoever made that Wall-E comment.

The OP didn't make any attempt to speculate on the person's circumstances for being in a motorized wheelchair. The OP's problem was with some people in those being rude. That's a legitimate complaint. Same with strollers. Most people in the motorized wheelchairs need them. I think the unstated point of the OP was that this problem is exacerbated by people using those things when they don't need to. edited

One thing I'll chime in about with those ECCV's is that people also don't see the ECCV's. They are looking straight ahead, not down. They are also hard to drive, they don't stop as automatically as you might think and people pretty much cut in front of you like they do when you are on foot. Except unlike when you are on foot, you can't just stop dead in your tracks.

I know my fil who drives an ECCV (his own due to a heart problem he was born with) has at times seemed rude. It takes a lot of concentration to drive one of those things, people cut in front of you, stop dead in their tracks for whatever reason and then turn around and scream at him when he can't stop. Sadly, having to drive one of these through Disneyland has gotten so difficult with the crowds he just doesn't go anymore.

If we would ALL slow down and get a bit more polite, whether you are driving an ECCV, pushing a stroller or walking, it would be much more pleasant!

I:)

That is such a great memory and I bet you're right. :flower3:

I don't really understand people sometimes? I was merely pointing out that the OP's statement about overweight people on ECV's was incorrect. I see that the OP has now changed the wording to reflect their bad wording/assumptions. They made it seem that only fat people drive ECV's, and that they can't drive them. This may be true that people can't drive their ECV's, but I saw no reason to make fun of a group of people. Yes, I am overweight. I do not use an ECV while at Disneyland, but I hardly see what that has to do with anything.

My ouch was a defense of you edited

I too see no reason to make fun of people either. The original post has been reworded. I just wanted to jump in and say that regardless of the weight of a person operating it, they are not easy to drive. I have had to move my fil's a few times and I am thankful I don't have to drive one on a regular basis!

Many people like my fil are overweight. Because they are sick. Which is why he has one.

You could have been on it once when you were about 4 but you wouldnt stop screaming about the dark....never should have taken you on snow white first...:sad2:

okay the snow white ride was was terrifying!!!!!! stupid ride made me not want to go on any dark rides and making me miss out and and and

Nope, the OP changed what was originally posted to NOW indicate a concern with how ECV's are driven.

Here is what was originally written in the first post:
(Copying Peter King's Format for his Football Articles)
1. The number of extremely overweight people driving the motorized carts grows every time I visit...I heard one of the best comments this past visit from someone in line: "This place is looking more like Wall-E every time I come here."

As Audrabolster has pointed out, the OP re-wrote the post which was VERY negative and assumptive regarding overweight people.

HydroGuy, this is for you: :drinking1 You MUST need it by now. :goodvibes
