.

It's really disappointing. I used to always buy the mugs because they were souvenirs to us. In fact, we wouldn't even bring back our old mugs on future trips because we use them so much at home that they would start to fade, so we would get new ones everytime. Now, we will buy one set of mugs per year and that's it. In fact, we may just start "sharing" one or two mugs. Heck, maybe we'll just scrap the mug thing and just start staying concierge every time. ;)

 We purhased the new mugs at POR two weeks ago. We refilled the mugs 5 or 6 times while on our stay. They are already peeling and looking shabby. The ones purchased on other trips remain looking great...not a paint crack or peel (mugs from 1997, 2002, 2003, 2006 ). Don't mean to fuss but I saw LOTS of folks using the old mugs at POR. One man commented to one of the users that that mug wasn't supposed to be used for refills anymore and the guy just laughed. It's amazing that there are still some blockheads who don't feel that the rules apply to them. I will now jump off my soapbox.

We got the new mugs at the CBR when we were there 5/18/-5/24, I used mine every day we were in WDW and I use mine each day now for my coffee. My mug is not peeling or looking shabby at all (and I've put it in the dishwasher).

When we stayed at SS in May, I saw (2) men using Penn State mugs and getting refills a few times. Now that really takes nerve and ruins it for the rest of the people. When a CM was told about this, they just ignored the whole situation.

These are the peeps who ruin it for everyone! :sad2:

I too have to admit that I am disappointed that the mugs will all be the same.
It was such a nice memory when you got home to use one of the exclusive mugs and be able to change them around. Using them, brought back great memories and always made me want to go back. I figured they always made money on us, because we aren't huge pop or coffee drinkers, but the generic mug doesn't seem like it will help the situation any. Pop and coffee are cheap when you consider how much you pay for everything else.
I hope this is one experiment that they find is a failure. And go back to resort exclusive mugs that won't peal and will last for years. Just like our memories.

What size are the new mugs? Are they the kind that will fit into the car cup holder?

Same size as they were before. And yes, they are the ones that fit into car cup holders. They don't have the other style (at least they didn't in May when we were there).

We got them and will admittedly use them on our next '07 trip in Aug. But, I don't have the nerve to reuse old ones and will probably update to the '08 one when we return next year. Like a lot of you, I saw people using ones from years ago. The only other thing is it is nice to be able to use them at other resorts during your stay. We like to go around to different resorts and walk or eat at the "food court" style places on a whim. This way, we can still drink with our resort mug.

A benefit of this generic program is that I won't be compelled to buy mugs every time we stay somewhere different. We're running out of storage space for these puppies!

we noticed last summer alot of people chatting with the cms and other people at the food court comparing the diff. mugs from the all stars. they were having a nice conversation, oh yeah. i actually had 1 mug from before also. so we all had a nice laugh over them. um..........if i have to buy 1 this summer thats fine. i def. would not loose sleep over it though. we usually go every year, not sure about this fall. but hopefully we will get to go, and like i said , if i have to buy 1 mug we will. the reason we might not be able to go this year, my dd and baby grandson were supposed to come home to visit from alabama cause my son in law is in the army. he may have to go back to Iraq..............we are not sure................sorry im babbling again........but any how im just hoping we can all go....and yes we will all buy mugs........haha

Like many, we're sad that we won't be able to collect different mugs from the various resorts. :(

Still love the mug program, though! Just wish they'd make 'em bigger. :thumbsup2

Another one here who would like to be able to add to our resort specific mug collection. I prefered the fat mug style, too. Didn't have one yet from the Poly, and though we may buy one of the generic style during our stay in Sept, we would have definitely bought two of the resort specific.

While I love the resort-specific mugs, it was problematic for those who did split stays. From what I've heard, they are trying to adjust it so "length of stay" means your actual length of stay, not just the particular resort where it was purchased to help accomodate those who split their stay. It stunk to have to buy 2 (or more) sets of mugs, even though we were on a single trip.

Regarding the posts further up discussing that soda is cheap -- I heard on one of the WDW podcasts recently (wish I could remember which one--I listen to a bunch!) that as part of its exclusive agreement with Disney to provide soda, Coca Cola gives Disney a supply of soda for free. Anyone know any details about this? That would shed some light on why The Powers That Be are not so worried about how much soda they end up giving away.....

I have heard different things about that - I don't know if they really do get it for free, or a reduced rate, etc. My husband used to work in the restaurant business and said the soda cost them pennies then. I can't imagine it's a lot more pennies now. And with the mugs, they aren't using up paper cups - just ice and soda.

Even if it cost Disney .10 per fill-up, it would take maybe 120 fill-ups to start costing Disney money (if the mug cost $1.00 or so, which I'm not sure if it'd cost that much for them). And in that time, there is probably quite a bit of food being sold as well.

I was told on the side of a backstage tour once that they get the soda for free as part of the agreement and also as part of printing the advertisement for Coca Cola on all the products they do. It "costs" them printing, but that's about it.

To be honest, it is very difficult for the CMs to enforce the policy. There is nothing to keep someone from buying a single mug, then using it over and over again to fill a popcorn bucket, a 2 liter bottle with a funnel, the family's paper cups, or a resort ice bucket with soda. (all things I have actually witnessed) The mug says "free refills", it does NOT say per person or anything else, so CMs can't say anything about it.
