14 Happy Meals? Really?

If somebody's budget is so tight that they are worried about using gas while idling in the drive through, I would think they would be prudent and park their car to go inside. They wouldn't want to take the chance that there is a mess up on an order in the drive through.
If somebody's budget is that tight, they probably shouldn't be ordering soda from a restaurant, period. That's not my point.
GAS IS ALMOST $4 PER GALLON! it's not about individual budgets. Do people really care so little about this that they're willing to waste their and other drivers' gasoline idling in the drive-through lane? The example in the original post is especially egregious - not because the customer ordered fourteen Happy Meals, but because they then went on to ask questions about the availability of additional items: "do you have fries?" (really?) :rolleyes2 and "do you have chicken sandwiches?" :rolleyes1

The OP was fortunate in that she heard this interaction and was able to get out of the line and go somewhere else. The drivers behind her? Not so lucky.

It's not about an individual's budget.

I see people walking around drinking water that costs $4 a gallon ($1 for a liter bottle from the vending machine). Not sure how this applies to anything, but just wanted to mention it, (kinda like this thread).

In answer to the question of why anybody would order 14 Happy Meals, I can remember when my son's class went on a field trip and they would order Happy Meals for them, and let them eat somewhere other than inside McDonald's. I think that the same people who would object to one adult purchasing 14 meals for a class of children would be equally put out by a group of 14 first graders inside of McDonalds. And, yes, some kids don't want mustard, some don't want ketchup, and trying to reason with a 6 yr old that taking the pickle off a hamburger is ok, is not easy either. Mt husband has a great story about how pickt he was at that age... d

If one is hung up about idling and wasted gas then why would they be in the drive through in the first place? They would walk in if it was such a big deal to them.

Does anyone really think the drive through is just for them and they will never have to wait and *gasp* idle while others ahead of them are ordering, paying and getting their food?

When we would take the top off our 4x4 and go through the drive thru, it would never fail that we would get the vehicles that always leaked the worst fumes in the line ahead of us.

Oh wait, you aren't joking are you.

Why bring several cars? :confused3 If you have the personpower to carry the fourteen meals and drinks - which obviously you would with three adults - take one car with three adults and go into the store to order.

why? I would be following the 5 orders per car and I have just as much right to be in that drive through as anyone else.

Talk about entitlement. I can't believe some people actually think they are entitled to have sole use of the drive up and anybody who may impact their self-imposed time limits should be inconvenienced and go inside just to make sure that they don't have to idle in their car.

No, I wasn't joking. But I give up. You all have beaten me down to the point where there just is no point. You win. Continue on with your "it's all about me and the heck with everybody else" attitudes and conversation.

Forgetting self-imposed time limits - what about the company time limits several posters have provided?

Those are employee standards for speed. It isn't my job to make sure that I meet those guidelines as a consumer when I place an order. So I am only allowed to place simple small orders? Of course not.

In general the big complex ones balance out with the simple small ones timewise. It's true for time standards anywhere. When I worked retail at one place we were timed regarding the speed of our transaction and our time went red for things out of our control like a customer taking a while to run their payment, large orders, certain items (like clothes as we had to remove them from hangers prior to processing them) and other things. It isn't the customers "job" to only do things that will be within the employees timing standards. As an employee I wouldn't refuse an order that I knew would "ding" me timewise because that isn't their problem.

I'm pretty sure McD's WANTS people to order items in the drive-thru. Unless there is a sign specifiying limitations-such as the example a pp noted of a Dunkin Donuts limiting sandwhiches during breakfast-then you're free to pretty much order whatever is on the menu board, in any quantity, which is why they have a menu and a drive-thru...so people can buy stuff :confused3

Here's an easy solution to drive-thru stress. Keep your window rolled up until it's your turn to order. Then roll it back up. That way, you'll have no idea what the person in front of you ordered :lmao:

I haven't read through every posts yet.

This thread reminds me why I rarely eat fast food. I go to McD only once or twice a year at most. I don't do drive thru because I don't like idling my car wasting gas. I always order inside no matter how large or smaller is my order.

I wouldn't complain about how long it takes to get thru the drive thru. I am more concern if my order is correct or not. Many times, McD always messed up my order. That would've sent me off the edge.

I have purchased 20 Happy Meals at one time, but from BK - it was my DS Birthday in Daycare and I took the kids the meals. But the day before I got a list of burgers, or chicken and I went to BK and placed the order told him what time I would be there the next day and they had it all ready for me.

My DS classes at some time have had McD's for school trip lunches.

katieeldr, I think you need to make a change in how you view the Dis. NOBODY ever 'wins' a discussion on the Dis. People post their viewpoints over and over and over and over again thinking that repetition will convince everyone.

I have seen a couple threads that you post over and over again on and you end with "you win, woe is me."

You are really going to drive yourself insane if you think there are "winnable" threads on the DIS.

You can post 57 times that the sky is blue, but there are still gonna be folks that say, "The way WE were brought up the sky is purple."

Relax.

The company time guidelines are not customer issues. They are there to sell food. They are happy to sell big orders even if it ocassionaly skews their time reports.

I worked for several fast food places when I was young. It always ticked off the workers when someone would go through the drive thru with a big order.

I'll just say that right or wrong, it's not good to piss off anyone making your food. Don't ask me why it matters to the cooks or drive thru guys whether you order inside or outside, but it always did. It's just not worth the risk. If I have a big order, I always go inside...both out of respect to the cars behind me and out of fear of the cooks, lol.

OK let's turn this around. Sould it be "all about you and to heck with me"?

It was previously stated by a user that 4-5 orders was ok, anything more needed to go inside.

There have been a few that said there are company time limits. There have been just as many that have said the drive through is for convenience and large orders are just asked to move aside (just like inside) and wait.

Please link to the official policy that has been published to the public that details this so-called official company policy.
