I bought TT for myself. My dad wants to "try" it. If I give him the software, can he load it on his computer and try it? What if he wants to file? Will he have to buy his own?

He really wants to try this out but my mom is insisting they go to the tax lady who does their return BY HAND! She is an accountant and does lots of returns!! She screwed ours up a few years back but my parents still go there.

You dad can go to turbotax.com, and try it there. He can input his information, and it keeps a running total on the side showing how whether you owe or are due a refund. You can go through the whole thing and not pay until/unless you decide to actually get your return through them.

I have to say..for anyone who hasn't bought, I just filed mine online with HR Block online service...$9.95 and nothing to download..IRS Has already accepted my return (I filed on Thursday)

According to the Turbo Tax license - you are allowed to do his tax return on your computer, but not allowed to give him the discs to install on his.

You can let him do it and "technically" he shouldn't need to do anything except pay the fees to have the refund electronically deposited into his account.

Which I have to say is a HUGE ripoff this year! We paid $60.00 total to e file and to use direct deposit but it was still worth it. We do get some of it back but man that stunk!

My whole family uses my taxcut on my computer. well...I actually do all their returns for them.

My friends and I used to "share" a TurboTax each year. But I think about 2-3 years ago, they made it so that you actually couldn't install the software on more than one computer.

I have it installed on my computer and my mom comes over and prepares her taxes.

For anyone who made $52,000 or less, there is now Free File. You can find the links on www.irs.gov. You choose a company and they file it free through their own software. I did it, it did turn out that I had to pay 7.95 to file my state, and 14.95 to have it direct deposited. They both just came out of my refund. They both got accepted.

They don't do that anymore because of the huge uproar that it caused, and all the problems. It's now an open installation.
